Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

One of the most blatant take-outs in Grand Final History. We were already up against it before the game when Blocker Roach was suspended and tried to serve the suspension when Barnesy unsuccessfully tried to have him registered to play in the Old Dart. The ARL refused to acknowledge the UK games as legitimate.
The week prior to the Grand Final our legendary No.1 supporter (and best shearer in the world), Laurie Nicholls was telling all media outlets that, ''Ellery Eats Cellery". This only proved to put a bigger target on Hanley's forehead. Baa Baa wacked him good and he didn't come out for the second half.... The rest is History. If Terry is claiming he didn't mean it then he should undertake a polygraph liar test!
As I recall, the issue was Blocker was not whether UK games counted (they did) it was that to make it work they had to count a game in the UK and one in Australia on the same weekend.

If Naden can replicate that during the season he will cause some actually pleasant coaching headaches & help solve our centre issues. It does however leave Charlie Staines out in the cold.

Happy to hear Naden is trying again.

But please keep him off the wing, centre or nothing. And only if he's really turned his game around.
Agree, he's more a centre than a winger, though handy wing replacement if needed. He needs however to show consistency. He also needs to pull his head in & stop his regular brain farts.
Lobb didn't get much of a look in last season poor game I seen he was carrying an injury and should of been replaced
That was awful to watch, Lobb clearly needed to come off. He also wasn't supported well by his inside man.
That would have hit his confidence pretty bad, the poor buggers face showed it all. The guy has a hell of a lot of potential though.

First day back for the new year.

I think with all the back room drama the Sione deal will be official this week & likely the May deal made official through the NRL. Possibly a Seyfarth upgrade as well.

Galvin... Who knows but you'd think Moses will be using the backroom stuff to push the price up.

29 out of 30.

I am interested in who gets the 30th spot but I do think one of two things; Either being held for Taylan May or a Backrower. Don't see a result soon here IMO. Not a huge amount of Backrowers on the market.

What does interest me though is who we look to sign for 2026. Hopefully we have a few targets that we push hard for between now & the start of the 2025 season to give clubs & players piece of mind.
I think we really need another forward who can play both edge & in the middle.
We shouldn't be signing anymore outside backs until we offload a few of the non performers.

We have a lot of outside back depth, the problem is that a lot of them are dead weight. The old administration had a bad habit of filling our top 30 with rubbish

Definitely need to buy a second rower. We have extremely limited depth there. Once that's sorted we can look to sign a better centre

Go get Staggs, Richo!

Naden can train the house down and be fitter and faster than everyone in the NRL, but fitness and attitude is not the problem. It’s the constant brain explosions at critical times in games, that happen regularly. Maybe a brain transplant might be the answer.

Anyway let’s hope this is not just preseason media fluff and Naden is really going to have a crack

As you say it is complete lack of discipline which is his main problem in FG.I can accept his form but not his attitude as it has always been in his past

Better fitness can lead to more consistent decision making. Mistakes are made under fatigue due to poor fitness.

Also his system needs to be clean of other things.

Yeah the training the house down stories are a yearly thing, will wait to see how it translates to game play.

850k is elite front rower money . Theres only 2 maybe 3 with backloading , who would be on 1 mil . Thats Hass ,AFB and Tapine . If you consider Tino a front rower than him as well .
JFH is not on a mil at the warriors .
If im missing someone I can’t think of any . Hass is a generational player , a tier on his own . I’d put AFB on his lonesome beneath Hass . Then there’s like 4 maybe 5 guys . Your Mitch Barnetts, Joseph Tapine , Tino , Flagler , JFH when he’s not injured , maybe a Spencer Leniu. Then there’s a tier below that which is Terrell May , Asofa Solomona , Safiti ,Cotter , these types, then another tier below that which would include Thompson there . I’d put stefano another tier below that maybe on the same tier .
So what’s that put Thompson ? Maybe 20th best front rower ? When you’re down around that mark you’re probably paying guys 600-700k . Not 850-900k .
That’s all I’m saying . Just my opinion .
I think we just have differing opinions on how we rate Thompson and our tiers.

I think the 4 you mentioned alongside JFH would be considered tier 1 and worth about $1M. Then the next tier down i'd have Barnett. NAS, Leota, Flegler worth about $850K. Tier 3 is where id sit Thompson alongside Leniu and altough they are very different players Cotter and Collins and May worth about $750K. Of these i'd also rate Thompson as the most likely to progress from tier 3 to 2. So i agree that a value of $825K seems a little excessive currently, i don't think it is grossly overpaying (particularly as the Dogs need a front rower) or that he won't be worth that in '26 onwards.

Take out the squid and put in a brain?

Mate they usually start the day after the Sydney test. Then the NRL fluff machine goes into overdrive. They pump out the same stuff but just change the names . It’s all about pumping up interest in the NRL up coming season and the accuracy plus substance means very little
