I’d imagine there would be plenty of quality applicants available. Executive Search/Talent Acquisition companies often tap potential candidates on the shoulder to encourage them to apply if they feel think those candidates meet the skills matrix.I totally agree with you. What is a bit annoying is the suggestion from quite a few on her that what was said wasn't credible. At some point you have to take people at face value. I will be shocked if we don't have the independent directors on board by the end of the month. If we don't then forumers should feel free to tear in.
My biggest concern is that there may not be enough quality applicants to produce a quality board. If there aren't, I'd rather delay selection on one or more positions until that quality emerges. I'd like to see some judicious shoulder-tapping as long as that doesn't compromise the independence of the choices.
It’s usually a pretty proactive approach they take to sourcing potential applicants, speaking to them about the skills matrix, requirements of the role and encouraging them to apply.
I’d also argue that if HBG as owners were truly worried about quality on our board they wouldn’t have replaced Dave Gilbert with Dennis Burgess. Objectively, Gilbert’s experience and expertise is far better suited to running a professional sporting organisation than Burgess.
I think for me it’s a wait and see approach. I think the fact we’ve got a loose timeframe in place for the appointment of independents is a positive. There was a commitment made by the club and HBG to implement the review in full.
However I’ve been burnt too many times by false dawns, broken promises, and hyperbole from the club so I’ll feel more at ease once the independents are confirmed and announced.
