Yeah, I don't like his policies, his manner and his personal behaviour, but it is rare across western politicians to have such radical ideas and also to do what they say. In both his first term and now he's done what he said he would and I give credit to him for that. I'm interested watching both him and Javier Milei in Argentina. Australia can hopefully learn from their experiments in radical reduction of government and regulations.

I personally do not agree with those approaches, but there's no denying the impressive economic impact of Milei in Argentina and it does make me think about waste and over regulation in our own country.

We also have Britain going the other way in raising taxes to balance the budget, so will be interesting to see which approach works.
 
I don't think 1 week is enough for anyone to change their minds on Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon.

I am fundamentally against many of his policies so I don't think he is doing a good job, but those who are for I would imagine are pretty satisfied. I think the crypto pump and dump would of been a scandal in just about any other era.

If at the end of 4 years America and the world is in a better state because of Trumps policies, I will happily change my position

I recall he was annoyed the first term how slow and unprepared they were to get started and so they really prepared a lot to hit the ground running. Have to respect that.
 
I’m not all over his campaign but I watched highlights of his first day it pissed me off and made me realise that us humans are going to destroy this amazing world through greed and people not willing to give up a fraction of there wealth so everything can be a little fairer.

Pretty much sums the hole thing up. He mentions these words and gets huge cheers from the crowd.

He then backs out of the Paris climate agreement and gets an even bigger cheer

Mean while we are experiencing the hottest weather on record and natural disasters are destroying the word. What’s his answer to these problems?

Yet they have fallen off massively in just that week, going into this one with even lower popularity than his first term. He now holds the lowest popularity quinella for an incoming president, and little wonder as the nation slowly awakens to an authoritarian oligarchy.

Even more have jumped off the bandwagon in the last 24 hours as they realised that the Project 25 that he repeatedly lied about his knowledge of, had another of its major policies enacted. Consisting of cuts to government programs to fund Elmo's mars dream grants and further tax cuts almost exclusively for the wealthiest.

By the way, he did not win the popular vote, as that requires surpassing 50%, so merely a plurality, and that is not a mandate.

What's he or done though? Gulf of America?

Threatening to take Greenland and Panama Canal, making Canada the 51st state, speaking about putting tariffs on quite a lot of imports which will be retaliated, stopped all funding (which is illegal by the way, has to go through congress first), hired a guy for the highest military position in the country who is an alco that was in the army but commanded half a dozen people at the max and who now controls 2m plus....

Sending illegal migrants back s one thing but the ones born there can't under the Constitution so that's another legal minefield.

That country over the next4 years is going to feel the pain. Both democrats and republicans have lost the plot.

That one will be an interesting one SeanT. A Republican judge appointed by Reagan has already stopped it. It will go to SCOTUS for a ruling on the 14th amendment. The 14th was originally ratified for the freedom of the slaves.

So far ive seen a few arguments.
*One born in the US should automatically be granted citizenship per the 14th
*Foreign citizens such as dignitaries i.e. If an ambassadors child is born in the US they are not automatically a US citizen
*You dont get to keep the proceeds of a crime. If you rob a bank and are caught you dont get to keep the cash. If you commit a crime by entering the country illegally you have no rights to the 14th as its for US citizens and by extension neither does you child.

The SCOTUS ruling on that one will be very interesting................... and years away from a decision.

You know in 2016 I told my wife to stop worrying about a potential Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon presidency, but it was a bad one and I was naive to dismiss the impacts of the US on Australia, especially radical shifts.

So if Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon does culture wars and other nonsense, and wins, lots of Western right wing parties try the same thing. Dutton is trying a lite version of it right now.

And then if Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon decides to tariff Australian exports, or start another economic war with China,
we lose out bigly because of our large trade deficit with the US and large trade with China. Already the Aussie dollar has taken a battering the past 12 months because we are highly susceptible to capital flight to the USD as well as shifts in commodity markets. Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon could try to cancel AUKUS.

You want an American president who places nice in the international arena - dependable and reasonable, with an international outlook. That allows us to mostly ignore their domestic politics. But Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon's nothing like that, he's mercurial, selfish and arrogant. He's already clearly trying to push the US weight around internationally with pressure tactics, already poking Canada, Denmark, Mexico, China, Colombia. We don't want a partner who is that selfish and unreliable, it's bad news for world trade and Australia.
