I think you are taking the most extreme comments made by some of those who believe it is a major issue and generalising it. Surely there's a centre where an argument can be made that something should be done? Beyond the fear mongering from some and outright denial by others.

What about the money flowing in from fossil fuel companies on both sides of politics? Surely that taints the debate

I can't remember anyone saying the world would end in a decade. But there is a point, like a runaway train, where you have to apply the breaks before it can stop in time.

There's also all the economic lead time to retrain workforces and the potential to become a leader in sustainable energy tech.

What that point is? There are a lot more educated people determining that than you or me. I tend to put my trust in those educated in it. The worst case, the human civilisation is early in the transition - i dont see that as a bad thing.

The climate change issue im not interested in at all. It ranks of importance somewhere between what to have for dinner tonight and what to do with this belly button fluff. Its a complete non issue. Have the further talk to people that think its a thing and deserves further attention. Those in charge of the world buying ocean front properties, flying in private jets and seemingly not giving 2 shits about it dont seem to think its an issue either. Argue amongst the other peons and not question them, its by design.

For covid, there's still no conclusive proof either way and I remember the debate has been going on since it all happened. So yes, smart people are debating both sides on it. "Egg meet face"? Lol. Come on man.

... and yes, people have different opinions on the urgency. I'd be smart and lean on the cautious side. As the consequences of early vs late is far, far different.

It's the speed at which climate change is occurring.

We know several facts and can put them all together:
1. There have not been humans on Earth before

2. Humans are the only known civilisation on Earth to enter an industrial age, so we haven't had a past cycle with industrialised people in it

3. Fossil-fuel based industry vastly increases the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. It does this by burning (releasing) the carbon that has been stored over millions of years, but releasing it in decades.

4. CO2 is a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the atmosphere

5. As levels of CO2 in the atmosphere increase the average temperature increases. BTW this can be proven, we can measure both CO2 levels and temperature

6. Average higher temperatures cause greater extremes in climate, particularly because hot air can hold more moisture and therefore water distribution is more chaotic

It's not some snap decision or thought, people have been collecting climate data for a long time now.

They have climate evidence from the geological record. It's not pinpoint accurate like current data but it tells geologists about historical climate cycles. E.g. when the last ice age was.

Why are you implying i beleived it was a pangolin? You approach things weirdly mate. You try to put me on a side. This debate has been going on a while.

The CIA said it now has more data and is leaning a certain way. Sounds like good process to me. Collect more data and adjust conclusions.

The point isn't whether or not the US has nationwide health concerns, the point is whether RFK is the best candidate to oversee the Department of Health.

The man has a dodgy history and is recently flip-flopping on his opinions. Worse still the appointment is not to do with the credentials of RFK, it is instead a publicly acknowledged favour returned for RFK endorsing Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon last year.

Surely the Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon administration can come up with someone less controversial and better qualified.

I have some confidence they won't actually do that much more drilling, the economics aren't adding up.

It's not as if you can just produce all the oil and gas you want, you need buyers and the global market can be saturated. For example China and India are taking cheap oil from Russia and China specifically does not want to be in fuel debt to the US.

Already the cartels have been controlling oil output to stabilise prices for decades, because if you dump on the market the price plummets.

There are also estimates that the fracking boom is peaking and the US simply cannot get extra volume out of the shales they've been using.

The real problem for the US is that if Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon does in fact try to focus on continuing a fossil fuel boom the US will completely miss the Green Energy boom that China is already positioned to dominate because of their manufacturing and critical mineral advantages. For example China currently produces about a quarter of the world's solar panels and sells around 70% of the world's electric vehicles.

Not interested in changing your mind Winnie. I don't think you're the kind of person who changes their mind in an internet discussion with some random bloke. I mean that as a compliment

I was just pointing out to the original comment that this changing climate is not part of some natural cycle. I was also hoping to make the point to you that you can believe that climate change is a major issue and not be some mindless pearl clutching elite, which is your characterisation.
