1st trial thoughts?

I was watching the panel yesterday during the delay the in the Manly-Souths game and they briefly talked about us. Walters and Mal were pretty enthusiastic talking about Luai, then it gets to him and it’s “Yeah, but he won’t have the players giving him time this year, not as much quality ball, players won’t be pushing up, he won’t have Cleary bleaching his pubes etc etc”. He didn’t have one redeeming thing to say.
I think the reality is that we’ve been so bad for so long there really isn’t reason why they think it would change.
All I know is that momentum can change very quickly if we can get a run of wins early in the season - if a win takes a few rounds the pressure will build again. It’s so important that we get off to a flier.

The gronk is only in love with Easts and Melbourne always has stars in his eyes when the conversation turns to them needs to put on a rubber red nose maybe that will make him more likeable.
Of course. The elite clubs. I remember someone suggesting we should sound him out as a coach. As if. He’d have to hold his nose just walking through the door.

The other thing I thought about was that the clubs tend to start the year not taking too many risks, just getting into the grind and trying to force an error. I think we’ll start that way this year and maybe players were told to just use this game to do something similar, build match fitness and get reps in.

Too funny, I can just picture the disgust on his face at the suggestion of coming here to help and then the panic when he is scrambling for an excuse to turn us down.

I thought Broederlow showed that he might have something. Kit looked good in second half and may be a chance of getting a spot as an impact forward in the future. Overall thought we went ok, seems the rushing in winger defence is still a thing however.
Has all the skills our best second row prospect by a long way. Jack Todd from the Dogs was a class above our forwards. Kit Laulili was also strong and Skelton is a walk up start on one wing.

Lobb is simply aweful, has nothing at all in attack or defense, so slow and gets driven back in every tackle, will never see first, terrible he is taking up a spot, hopefully its his last year ...Feledy came too us from Manly with heaps of potential, not tall enough and cant defend!! He wont go any further then reserve grade and please get that haircut, if only we had the barber shop still!! Kit was good when he came on, a little disapointed with Tim J, maybe i got sucked in by all the hype and Noah dropped way too much ball. Latu was pretty quiet and i would actually prefer the little fullback to play 14 in the first round. At least there were no injuries as a positive.

same old same old ,with just a bit more resilience from attack n defense KOE side top 8 with out to much tinkering,

I was wondering before this game why we would play Galvin as the only main first grade player in this game before the first graders trial.
But when he started the game on the right, I got my answer. It was an extra game for him to get familiar with the change and how to control the opposite side of the field, read defence from a different direction and i think given all that, despite some over playing of his hands he achieved what was intended.
Having Luai remain on the left as a left side dominant player i think is really important for us as well.

Technically Galvin is a reserve grader and played like 1 in this game - just saying
