Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It comes back to price vs output and for that output, a Reuben Porter could do the job if need be - who’s not even top 30.

My fear is people saying to load up on Galvin. I’d offer him $650k max a season at the moment. That’s purely going off what he did last year and potential.

I reckon he goes to the Chooks and in 2026 Fainu and Luai are the halves. We also have no more Olam or the other guys off contract at the end of this year.

In 2025 - Tigers are going shopping.
Offering Galvin 650k a season is just a waste of everyone's time. His manager would laugh in your face and if anything you'd have slightly increased his chances of leaving by offering such an insultingly low deal. The bidding for Galvin starts at 800-900k and that's for the two seasons he's already contracted; I'd be shocked if an extension to 2028 can be done for less than 3.8m. Don't think he's worth it? Your call; someone will.

There's also not as much coming off the books as you think at the end of 2026. Bird (dear god we gave him two years, SMH), Koroisau (but we'll need his money to keep Da Silva, hopefully), Olam (but the same applies re Makasini) and maybe To'a are the only ones who are on any real coin (and I doubt To'a is on much). The rest will all be close to minimum salary, which doesn't help as they need like-for-like replacements.

The thing is @2041 Galvin is contracted to us for '25 & '26 so he can continue on and earn whatever he is on atm, or he can accept a pay increase. I think $650k is more than reasonable if not excessive for a 2nd season player of Galvin's ilk (2nd ranked half in the wooden spoon club behind JL).

I feel Galvin himself would see himself as a Wests Tigers player long-term, it would be purely Isaac Moses advising him & his parents along the lines of let's see how the start of this season transpires before you extend. If there is no improvement in the squad under Benji or more turmoil at board level, I'm sure they will wait until Nov 1.
