OFFICIAL Jack Bird #299

He has always been able to play good football however the main problem with him is he often seems to be unavailable to play due to injuries.Hopefully the ice on his leg yesterday was precautionary only and he won't spend much time on the sideline.

Great defence in the middle of the field.

Good line speed, and hit them hard.

I'm very surprised to see someone like him in our colours and not go backwards.
And the dragons didn't want him makes you wonder what Flanno's thinking at times.
Put my hand up when we signed him thought he was an ordinary player but Benji has chosen the right way to use him, going well.

I think it was precaution, he walked off unassisted and was jumping around in the celebrations.

Been quite happy with Bird, brings energy, kick chase and scramble has been good.

I think this is more rumour than fact. He definitely had a bad run when he went to Brisbane but before and after he has had some pretty consistent injury free runs.

At Cronulla he played 26 games in 2015, 23 games in 2016 and 17 games in 2017. He played through the 2016 GF with an elbow injury so he definitley has some grit.

He left Cronulla with a shoulder injury that required surgery. This preventing him playing in the first two rounds for Brisbane in 2018. He then injuried his sternum in round ten; keeping him out of action for the next nine months. He finished 2018 with 8 games under his belt. He returned from the sternum injury in 2019 and played 9 games before he ruptured his ACL. He did the ACL again in the 2020 pre season and was out for the rest of that season.

21, 22 and 23 he played for the Dragons where he was pretty well injury free. He racked up 22 games in 2021 and 21 games in 2022. He only played 14 games in 2023 following his forced apology to fans after he had a go at them for planning protests against Hook and the team's performance. Last year he did his ankle in R12 and only played 14 games.

So his body has copped a bit, decent injuries to his shoulder, sternum, ACL x2 in (19/20) and an ankle but nothing that is "recurring". He has also demonstrated plenty of grit over time so I don't think there is a need to be concerned about him being injury prone. He has certainly had his fair share, but they appear to be pretty much centred around his time at the Donkeys. Before and after, until doing his ankle last year, have been pretty consistent injury free runs.
