Heath Mason #288

I’ve had enough of so called naturally talented players.
Give me an effort man anyday.
A cricket analogy would be an Australian batsman called Ross Edwards. Really limited in natural ability but his effort and dedication to become the best player he could be had him playing plenty of Test matches for Oz, when we had some great players - the Chappells, Walters etc.
I like Seyfarth. I hope he has a big season. We need him to.

Well Mason is known for his energy and endurance and acceleration. That's about it. His defence and kick defusal is a looooong way off nsw cup level, and a mile away from first grade calibre. If he practices a lot maybe he'll become a sufficient backup. But basically he's a ball runner. No playmaking or kicking game, not much defence. Just accleration and energy.
A Connor Watson type, so he's likely to be a 14 for much of his career
Then move the guy to wing and be done with it.

From what I have read here …Mason is on a development contract and can now be signed elsewhere for next year …

can someone confirm ?

If true…give him a Top 30 deal for next year pronto

Possibly has something to do with fielding high balls during the off season and playing with a lot more confidence as a result.

If Bula isn’t ready for R1 can Mason play fullback if he isn’t in the Top 30?

Good kid but don’t think we need him, we already have players and potential back ups in the positions he is playing. If we have a spot and no potential of filling it with a reasonable centre then give him a one year deal of some sort and see how he goes, maybe second year club option.

The kid has speed to burn and can break a tackle but he needs to get over this fear of contesting kicks. Not sure if its a fear of making a mistake or getting injured.
It might be lack of ability in that area of his game. Some people are just better than others at things, and therefore others are crappolla.

I think there is enough to suggest he will be a decent fill in, but I don’t see him going too much further than that. His utility value is probably his biggest asset but that may also be a weakness as he isn’t really good enough to hold 1 position down.
