Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Did Galvin and Latu play together and aren't they close?

I thought Galvin/Latu/TDS and Feledy were all friends in junior grades or something.

Both Benji and Richo are making us the mates club. We keep players by building friendships and a strong player group. Seemed to work at keeping the core 2005 group together at the Tigers for a long time (take from that what you will).

Honestly, I would prefer fewer changes going forward. Yes the Big 4 failed us in the past, but if we can keep a core group playing together we can build a team that we like and is worthy. I am also thinking it's probably wrong to build a team around halves... Particularly 5/8. This failed us with Brooks, we needed to change and couldn't. You can keep Center's and keep front row together.
I don't think Feledy is at the level brilliant junior, but can't bust the line at first grade level.

Retention we need to look at Doueihi sooner rather than later. He can sign with anyone else from now. Impressed at 7 in the trial, can ball play, can kick in play & can kick goals. Yes D is questionable at times & obvious injury concerns.

Another year with a 2nd year mutual option is what I would look at the $$$ will be the deciding factor. If he looks at the market a few desperate teams may pay overs for the positives listed above.

I would say $600 is about the money with salary cap increases & a starting centre who goal kicks. Just think Vla Holmes got 2.5m over 3 years at the Dragons.

They are pretty comparable with pros & cons
No way. 600k, just no.
Min or see ya. He has another 122 games to make up for.
I love how people get drunk on a couple of wins, a couple of losses and he’s a hack. One or two games does not make a champion, or a $600k centre.
Also Vals agent is way better than Doobies.

I wa worried if we give Galvin big money then which positions would people be happy to weaken to fit that in the cap. Currently he is on 300k. We sign him for $1m then we need to take 700k out of our cap elsewhere.

Now we can give up Sullivan's 550k which effectively covers 850k including Galvin's current deal so with that and with 3 spots soon to be empty then I think we have room.

What we do need to do though is be OK with saving money elsewhere which imo is why Richo has signed up Twal and Seyfarth - players who work hard but don't cost heaps so we can invest in our spine. We then need to be OK with continuing to not over invest in our centres

From Buzz latest article:

Which million-dollar forward (it’s not hard to guess who) is fighting to save his career at an NRL club after a sluggish start to the season? He is free to negotiate with rival clubs from November but will be offered an early release unless his form picks up.

Bateman? Paulo? Matterson?
Don't care, I just find it ironic that Steph left to learn so he could play origin and Steph leaving is what we needed to finally get an origin quality forward. Love our pack atm. Best pack we have had in years. May is a machine, Pole is a brick wall, Hunts an animal, the Fainus are awake now Samuela was running at them for fun yesterday. Bird is a tackling machine, was really worried about him coming, he's been great so far, Twal and Big Red just roll the sleeves up and get in the grind. Hope I didn't forget anyone.

Tim Sheens went & handed a bunch of kids who are no where near ready to play NRL a bunch of top 30 contracts & was a big reason why we copped spoons… he doesn’t deserve any credit
He identified the talent, I'm as upset with him as anyone with how he left the joint but you can't argue with the fact his ability to identify kids is the best in the game. Galvin, DaSilva and Bula he brought through. DaSilva was a local junior though as soon as Sheens spotted him specifically said this kid will be better than Farah. He knows talent. In an ideal world if Sheens came back just as a scout for juniors only and not to get involved with nothing else, I'd take him in a heartbeat. His eye for talent is second to none. What buggered us were the senior players he brought in on long term expensive contracts that couldn't play his system that was too rigid and outdated. If you want fast paced football with skilful ball movement, signing 30 year olds from England and Newcastle might not suite you.

Melbourne have proven over the years you can afford to pay your spine big dollars if you sign honest toilers elsewhere.

* Obviously with an asterisk over some of their success.

Gut feel or intel. Bunji’s press conference wasn’t encouraging talking about the team being great people on and off field.
Imo he was just referencing the guys in the squad now, I didn't read to much into it, I could be wrong though. I think with big May there he could keep him on a tight leesh. Plus stipulations in the contract, he would know its his last chance.

Fifita is welcome at the Tigers any time 🤣

Not sure what's going on up there but he's a brilliant player. Des doesn't seem a fan
The Dolphins will find the money for him, they always do, if he were released. I cannot envisage him being released as he is a local junior and a high profile player the Titans need.

Just to give you an idea of the top 30 contracts that Sheens handed out which till this day severely affects our roster spots & most importantly our weak NRL depth.
  1. Justin Matamua
  2. Kit Laulilii
  3. Brandon Tumeth
  4. Solomone Saukuru
  5. Tony Sukkar
  6. Josh Feledy
  7. Jordan Miller
That's almost one third of our whole top 30 (albeit Miller has been released)
