Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ok, I was 100% against hiring this piece of shit purely based upon what a scumbag mutt he is.
I then softened my stance as we needed someone like him and maybe he has adjusted his ways after his legal troubles.
I knew better than that though and admit my mistake. People do not change at their core.
Great work Richo, this may be your best decision yet.

I dunno...

Dylan Brown on silly money... Ponga seemingly unsettled... looking at changing allegiance to NZ... I can see Newcastle being blindsided by a release request in the next 12 months quite easily to be honest.

Though I'd have thought the Roosters would be having a sneaky look.
There was a rumour the warriors signed a star to play fullback for them moving forward . People have put 2 and 2 together and come up with Ponga . I heard it’s Selwyn Cobbo .

Cobbo was reported as being over there too, you're correct.

I hope the Warriors make that mistake.

Moving Cobbo around the field as a fullback in defence would not be overly difficult. I can't see a world where Selwyn would ever be fit enough to play fb.

Like you, I thought we needed this guy. But, so happy we didn't sign him. Clearly a dimwit and a slow learner.

Put my hand up as a lot on here would to badly wanting him signed but it's looking like we dodged a bullet, turning out to be a real gecko head.
The sad thing is , he might get to mid 30s and go 2 ways about his wasted footy career . “It’s everyone else’s fault “ or “what have I done !!!?”.
He’s good enough to get that generational wealth going , that looks like it’s starting to come into the nrl , and really break the cycle .
But he’s too knee deep in that culture .
He might have some serious mental health issues as well . Like bi polar or personality disorder or something , that’s gone undiagnosed.
anyways… I wouldn’t say we are desperate for centres . He’s just infinitely better than anything we have . But if the guy is a mess of a human being . He’s really got to sort his shit out . It’s not the 80s or 90s where people will let this shit slide because you can play footy . They will just move onto the next player .

On a pure footballing side of things, this is obviously a blow, but for me it shows Benji and Richo are building something with purpose for the long term. Way too many people wanted him without question. The effects characters like that can have on the playing group, especially when the club has been marketed as "family friendly", can be so damaging. They have done their dues.

The fact Penrith did not want him back considering their current depth tells you all you need to know.

Former NRL duo sign train and trial deals with Sydney club

The Wests Tigers have confirmed the signatures of two former NRL outside backs on train and trial contracts for the remainder of the 2025 NRL season.

One of six players to depart the Newcastle Knights at the end of the last season, Krystian Mapapalangi has made the move to the Wests Tigers after previously being linked with a switch to the Super League competition.

Debuting in 2022, he made four appearances in first-grade for the Knights after coming through the South Sydney Rabbitohs (Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup) and Manly Sea Eagles (SG Ball Cup) pathways system.

Only 22, Mapapalangi was once described by Knights coach Adam O'Brien and former recruiter Alex McKinnon as a superstar in the making. Unfortunately, he was continually plagued by injuries during his time at the club.

The Wests Tigers have also upgraded Izaac Tu'itupou (formerly Thompson) to a train and trial contract for this season after he played four games for the Western Suburbs Magpies in the NSW Cup to begin the year.

Debuting in 2022, Thompson managed 14 appearances and six tries for the Rabbitohs over the past three seasons, with five of those coming in the 2024 NRL season.

A member of the 2023 NSW Cup Team of the Year, he was a key back-up player during his time at the club and helped provide depth and coverage to the outside backs.

Finally, some actual transfer news.
Hopefully both of them can kick on,

Reckon if he is going to NZ it will be to play Rugby...

I can see him giving it a year with Brown, last roll of the dice. If it doesn't look like they can win a premiership he will be off.

I think Cobbo will surprise people, if put in the right situation.

I know I've said that Richo might see him as the new G.I., but it's probably closer to the next Latrell tbh.

I reckon he'd be a star at FB.
He was a QCup level, obviously NRL is different however.
