Oh I thoroughly expect Gould is a bastard to compete with behind closed doors and I have no doubts he's very shrewd.
But Gould doesn't air that stuff in public, never been his MO.

I think he genuinely means it. Gould is a league tragic at heart and he loves the romance of the tigers and wants us to do well for the greater good of the game. He isn't an evil bloke

I mean it’s his job to do what’s best for the bulldogs . In saying that , I can’t see “what’s best” being put a road block in front of the guy you signed from Penrith to be your star , and the 2 or 3 gun halves they’ve got coming through the system like woods and Conti . Especially woods .
I think the real issue is Manly , and to a lesser extent the dogs .
Moses likes to have control of clubs , and most clubs are shrewd enough now to have a cap/Mandate on the amount of Moses clients in their top 30 .
Might have something to do with them sticking with them in superleague and then merging for the benefit of the game

Gus is alright when it comes to the Tigers. His fake fawning over Galloway back in the day was cringy though. The bigger topic of conversation is why does Cronk hate us with the heat of 1000 suns?
I know. We could be beating a team and he will still lay the boot in and talk up the other team.

Against Parramatta, Cronk just stumped me.
After blotting the Eels for 78 minutes & putting 30+ on them, the Eels get a consolation try & Cronk goes "only the Tigers could do something like that".
I mean...I see no end of consolation last minute tries & don't think I've EVER heard a commentator feel the need to put the shiv in like that.
It was petty.

I’m sick of Gus, constantly using his platform on TV to push narratives about how much players are worth & what a club should be doing. It’s all to help himself behind the scenes, it’s a massive conflict of interest IMO.
E.g. You just know every time he says 19 year old Galvin is a $1million player he’s either hoping a team overspends, keeping pressure of his own young stars coming through like Woods, or he wants a player with the blocked path (Latu)

Now we see what real leadership looks like...frankly, I don't think we've ever really had it.
You can see why we were a laughing stock in hindsight. Why we expected journos and commentators to respect us when our own fans didn't is a little beyond my comprehension.
More work to do, but the respect is growing slowly.
