Benji 2025

Im not deathriding Benji but the likely replacement for him if he were to go might be Willie Peters who is currently coaching Hull KR in 1st place in the ESL .
Peters has a strong relationship with Richo

Even if we do decide to move on from Benji the cupboard is bare. The next coach has to be someone who’s coached before at first grade. The best one available would be Brad Arthur but if he doesn’t want it or goes elsewhere I couldn’t give the job to someone like Trent Barrett, Kevin Walters or Anthony Griffin (though not sure where he’s at currently) should they apply for it. Clubs caught in a hard place.
Ben Gardiner, our prev State Cup coach, is now at Penrith and doing fine. Letting him go was crazy in our internal coaching roundabout. Would be worth talking to.

I believe Benji will at least be given another season to build his squad unless the wheels fall off completely over the next 3 months. If that’s the case, yes Willie Peters makes perfect sense.

Justin Holbrook Would be my first choice.
While I don’t think Holbrook was responsible for everything that went wrong during his time at the Titans, I do think the playing group did stop playing for him towards the end of his run. He might’ve learned a couple new things at the Roosters since becoming an assistant but I thought I heard he’s joining Mal in Perth with the Bears. Could be wrong though but I am concerned taking him on as coach.

I know Peters was the Tigers head coach for the NYC team back in 2016 can’t remember how we did that year. But hard to compare his coaching in the SL for NRL when the comp over there is nowhere near NRL standard. Good for him to get them to forget place, but the standards over there are a lot lower than NRL.

Heard he’s apparently going to SL to coach one of the clubs over there. Don’t know if true though but if not he’s the only one I’d consider for the job that’s not been an NRL head coach before. Otherwise it’s gotta go to someone who’s been one before IMO.

I would take Burgess immediately.

Hull KR isn’t his first coaching gig

Peters has also been assistant coach here at South’s , Manly & Newcastle .

A similar career path of someone like Trent Robinson

The key thing though is the connection with Richo …

Willie Peters, a former professional rugby league player and current head coach of Hull Kingston Rovers, has a significant connection to Shane Richardson. Peters' coaching career began at the South Sydney Rabbitohs, initially working in sponsorship before being mentored by then-CEO Shane Richardson. Richardson recognized Peters' potential and helped him develop his coaching skills.

It’s his first gig as a head coach for a professional rugby league competition though where the standards are a lot lower compared to NRL. The NYC team was kids where the standards were a little less than NRL at the time. Yes he’s close to Richo and been an assistant coach in the NRL, but never been an NRL head coach before. We’ve done that before with Mick Potter and that didn’t turn out well. Not saying he’ll do exactly like he did but we’ve seen a good SL head coach fall down as a NRL head coach.

We’ve competed in 11/12 games. As long as that continues and we recruit for next year, I’ll back the current coach.

Benji said he will step down if he cant make it work ..so I guess that’s on the table if things keep going downhill …personally I have never seen a coach in any pro sport step down because they lose faith in themselves…

Rookie coaches aren’t going to make a dent at this club

When you have a former employee of the club publicly coming out & saying its owners don’t invest money into its product then how will any coach succeed? The Wests Tigers problems are so much bigger than a coaching issue and have been for a very long time.
What's this? Any links?
