Tallyn Da Silva #270

Mate if Tallyn becomes our no.1 hooker in season 2027, that will mark his 5th year in first grade.
This narrative that he is trying to jump the queue somehow isnt right.
By that time, he will well and truly have served his apprenticeship - all of it under Api who most claim is the best in the business still.
The problem is that it sounds like TDS doesn't want to wait..

Realistically, by 2027, TDS will be taking over as starting hooker or very close to it..

Hes not ready now.

I am guessing, but would be pretty certain there is an option to sign both API and TDS, but the TDS camp have said he's leaving if we sign API... So it's on TDS... and it's not the club's fault imo if he doesn't want to compromise on the plans for the team..

Probably poorly worded on my behalf. I expect, if he stays here, that he will be sharing the role with Api in 27 as opposed to being the man. If he can get a deal as the starting hooker in 27 it will be more $ in his kick.

This was going to happen come 1 November - now the bandaid is off and Tallyn can test the market and we will know what we have to offer to keep him; it also opens up the player swap, loan and early trade options.

As I mentioned in the previous post TDS being given permission to look early doesn't mean we release him early. I think it is a good option for both parties and we stil have the option to make and offer that works out.

This is all about opportunity - Tallyn get an opportunity as do we - let's see what the outcome is before making rash jusdements on either side of the coin.

If that’s the case, then the club has to do a better job in selling the vision.

Come on…we’ve just gone through this and it didn’t work then either.
2 wins since Galvin turned the offer down 10 weeks back.
Now we are going to do it again? Bloody stupid.

That is the conundrum with his manager admitting he had been approached by 5? clubs about him. Obviously, this was meant to place pressure upon the club for a release, not wait until the end of 26. For this to occur, the manager you would believe is going to have to provide significant sweetners to the club hopefully in the form of some of the best of his rising star clients.

If TDS wants to check the market , go for it , we need KPP now so I’m not fussed , Loan to Newcastle , we take KPP now be great , if TDS secures a great deal and wants it we are in the box seat to take a player via his manager in a swap for 2026 , plenty good young players out there in other clubs , every club has a hooker in reserve grade and the juniors , club needs to get it spies out and find one , who manages TDS ?

We allowed Twal to do the same and he still re-signed.

This is a good opportunity for TDS to see what his value could be elsewhere. If a club is willing to pay him 600k+ and a starting role, that's great. However, what's realistic may not be the same and no better than what we're offering.

Personally, I like TDS... but the club may think with Tristan Hope, Murray & maybe even Mason - we've got it covered for now with Heywood on the horizon too.

Interested to see how this one plays out.

My understanding is that his preference is to stay, but wants to start over Api.

We all know he's not ready to start. I think if he's not willing to wait we can wait another year or 2 for Haywood, and Api can fill the hole in the meantime.

If TDS does get moved on then Haywood becomes the next one in line, Hope and Mason could fill in for 2026 if needed, but 2027 and 28 you slowly start to groom Haywood to take over from 2029 at the latest. Think Mason will be a long term 14 so just fill in when needed.

He’s been killing it in cup but fairly average when called upon in NRL. Nobody knows what his ceiling is yet and we don’t seem to want to pay on potential. I don’t think there’s much wrong with that considering how badly we’ve been burnt before

It’s only turning into a big story because he’s a Campbelltown junior

As much as i think that TDS is a first grade hooker of the future he certainly is not one yet.It makes sense for him to stay and learn from Api and if he can't see that then i wish him luck in his future elsewhere. He needs to look at the career of Benny Elias being the understudy to Neil Whitacker who was also a good hooker for Balmain,in the long run it made Benny a more all round player.
TDS still has a lot to learn despite his talent.

You don't KNOW what you have in TDS, only suspect.

You do KNOW what you have in Api.

If we are playing 5 year plans- then you go with TDS. If you expect to be challenging now, it has to be Api.

If TDS is putting the 'him or me' argument forward- he hasn't WON the job off Api yet. You don't get to make that demand from a losing position.

I have said all along that there is a deal to be made to keep both. If Tallyn isn't buying in why wait until Nov 1 if there are opportinities on the table. I don't see this going down the same way as Galvin; however, it could. Any of us outside of the tent are just speculating. None of us know what discussions have been had and what, if any tension, is involved.

There is a big difference between the approach Galvin took and what appears to be happening here. I personally get the approach; in the workforce, if there is a problem, perceived or otherwise, you deal with it at the first opportunity instead of letting it fester. Tallyn has said if we extend Api he will test the market, so why wait until 1 Nov if the outcome is inevitable. Let him determine what he thinks he is worth and thenwe can make Tallyn a deal, or not.

Nothing to lose sleep over and plenty of time for us to find a replacement for Api - as he is celarly going to be here post 27.

Managing ego's is part of the job.
Look at guys like Bellamy...hes done it his whole career.
Easier to do at a successful club when trophy's are on the cards VS a club with 3 back to back spoons.. We are coming from a low base..

I also think he saw the investment in Lachy and thought "I want that".. so the Galvin saga is coming back to bite us..

I do like that we aren't being pushed around though...

I also think that the "5 clubs" that wanted Tallyn is a smoke screen by his manager and the tigers are calling his managers bluff.. TDS doesnt go anywhere and start next year..
