TEAM LIST Round 18 v Roosters

Team List

So how do we win this week?

  • Us: Inexperienced spine, players out of position, likely lacking cohesion.
  • Roosters: Inexperienced but youthful pack. Missing key Origin stars but Tedesco remains at fullback posing a threat in broken play and through the middle

Strategy: Keep It Simple, Structured, and Gritty

Attack

Play direct, early, and simple
  • Avoid overplaying with complex shifts. Utilise Latu’s natural deception to draw players to create edge threats.
  • Shift the ball early and often to provide opportunities for our outside backs.
  • Target the new combinations with our edges.
  • Complete to compete – do not allow the Roosters an advantage from our errors.
Kick to the corners in general play
  • Keep Tedesco away from broken field returns. Make him work from yardage.
Target Tedesco’s support play
  • When he sweeps, have inside defenders track him tightly to force him into contact or shut down his linking options.
Attack our own kicks
  • Roosters without their Origin stars may lack cohesion, we need to contest every kick – be it an AD floater or a Latu grubber. If well executed each opportunity should be a scoring opportunity.
Exploit the middle
  • The Roosters’ middle rotation is weakened, after tiring them with shifts to spread the defence change focus and exploit the middle.
  • Bring Taruva through the middle off May and Latu.

Defence

Control ruck speed
  • Slow down the play-the-ball. The Roosters rely on quick rucks to unleash their support players. Dominating first contact is essential.
Line integrity over individual shots
  • With an inexperienced spine, maintain line integrity is essential. This means not jamming in for big hits.
Inside shoulders on Tedesco
  • Don’t over-chase laterally. He often steps back inside tired markers. Inside defenders must trust the outside men and hold their spacing.
Kick-chase discipline
  • Full line sprint on every kick to reduce broken field returns. Even an average kick is effective with an elite chase.

Mental and Game Management

Win the grind
  • The Roosters will be strong despite being depleted. Frustrate them and get into the arm wrestle, forse them to make errors and capitalise on their mistakes.
Minimise unforced errors
  • Treat this as a semi-final in discipline. No cheap penalties. Make them earn metres.
Use fatigue wisely
  • When we control our own discipline and execute our sets we control the momentum. When fatigue sets in change the focus of our attack to exploit the areas that they have not been defending – if compressed send it wide – if sliding early bring it back through the middle.

Small sample size but doesn't look like we have won without API if these numbers are accurate

Its a fine line between control and what the ref deems ill discipline

Better and more detailed game plan than our coaches have come up with all year 👍

It is, but it’s about doing it in the contact not once the player is coming to the ground or on the ground. And if they land on their front or look to be landing on their front don’t twist them and gtf off them!

Hunt has another two years. My faith in this clubs ability to manage the roster is running on fumes, but if someone isn’t tapping Hunt on the shoulder, telling him to explore his options in the UK (No one here will touch him), then I’m at a total loss in believing anyone at the club knows what they are doing.
Dude seriously give it a rest. You pick one player out of 30 to say this? Really?

You're miserable.

You need to email that to Benji and the team ASAP 👍

Should have never been signed. We didn’t need to outlay 600k+ on a front rower that can play 15 minutes with 5 minutes of energy.

I just watched the pre match presser with Hope and he fills me with confidence. He's a journeyman player. He has the reps. He can come in and do a job. He knows what he needs to do. I'm starting to warm up to our chances in this game 😅😅
Fits right in with our team. A career reserve grader

Yesterday I got the feeling of us losing in yet an another close game, but I’ve changed my tune this morning and I am actually expecting us to win this one, against all odds! God is with us 🙏🏼

I haven’t been positive about this team winning games for about 10 years, in fact I always expect them to lose and it’s always a massive surprise to me when they win a game. So make what you will of my new found positiveness lol. I just think it’s time I expected good things to happen for this team and maybe it will play out on the field.
Welcome to the party of hope. Reality will soon deal with those sorts of thoughts
