Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Kobe Hetherington about to sign 2 year extension with the Broncos.

Adam Doueihi in current talks with the Wests Tigers, Brent Read speculates on 1 year deal with sights on Perth Bears.

(Brent Read/Triple M NRL podcast)
I'm ok with both things happening. I don't rate Hetherington as high as some and considering AD s career would be a good way to cash out. We need better to be playing finals.

Bula will extend long term the option is in the clubs favour and 900k is steep however, fullbacks cost minimum 700k. This one’s in the agents favour to negotiate a new long term deal as he gets paid. Old deal is under the previous manager until end of 2027. All subject to the player wanting to stay. Seems happy has been treated well by the club.
Exactly ! His stooges in the media like Dickio and Reed are spinning shit . Moses is making zero off Bula right now . That’s what this is about .

I respect your opinion, but we will have to agree to disagree, the impact and attacking threat I see from Kini and AJ Brimson when playing fullback far outweighs the impact we get from Bula.
lol did you watch the other side of the ball ? They’re turnstiles . People do understand 50% of the games they’re watch involve defending …

Mmm, interesting brain it could be superior, it could have the stamina to work for more hours in the day.

Sumner Miller would ask why is it so.
Maybe it's an internal time machine taking him from Qld's static timeframe to 2027 - and he knows the future player market ahead of the rest of us...

Maybe not

He won’t take much south of $900m per year …if I was his manager I would be advising against it …possibly $850k if they are lucky

I keep telling you folks that there is about to be a big leap in the salary cap when the TV deal is announced later this year
That's a good point aswell, I totally forgot about Tom, it's all relative, depending how much bigger the cap gets gives the club more wiggle room to pay a bit more without ruining it. I can't see Isaac doing anything other than trying to gouge us.

It it goes up by 30 percent , you don’t think salaries will increase that much ? There will be players on $2m once the next deal comes…

He is hardly an average player …
Out of curiosity what do u think our offer should be after 27. I'm a fan of Bula although I don't think he has progressed to the heights that were mentioned at the start of his career. My main concern is obviously the manager I think he will be asking for a significant pay rise than 900k to keep him. Telling you not that easy to get a squads caps right. We have a lot of players that will be expecting a significant rise in wages. Eg May, Latu we don't know how the other May will perform he's on peanuts and we have future of the Mak. Glad I'm not Richo.

I’d offer him $850 x 3 …if the answer is no than just take up the option for 2027 and see how he goes next season … I say this figure out of an expectation of salary cap increases following the next Broadcast deal…

It’s a bit of a risk and you are paying for potential a bit … but there is a risk for him too outplaying the deal

I was definitely one who wanted him here. Fantastic defender but I do take more notice of him watching Broncos and he is very sluggish hitting the ball up.

He is a sloth in the Seyfarth clone status but less minutes for the same output as Seyfarth. He also isn’t a lock. Glad we didn’t sign him.

Here are my current predictions for the 8 available spots in the top 30 we have + 2 available development spots for 2026. And subsequent depth chart for each position underneath.

Spot 1 (left centre): Taylan May (contingeny – Dane Gagai)
Spot 2 (utility): Bud Sullivan (contingeny – Siliva Havili)
Spot 3 (depth centre, backline utility): Krystian Mapapalangi (consider Brent Naden or Adam Doeuihi)
Spot 4 (depth wing): Izaak Tu’itupou (consider Charlie Staines)
Spot 5 (depth hooker): Tristan Hope
Spot 6 (depth lock): Charlie Murray
Spots 7 & 8 (depth props x 2): Jaxson Rahme, Peter Taateo

Development (locked in): Broederlow (backrow, middle), Haywood (hooker, halves), Taupau-Moors (middle), Godinet (backrow)

Dev spot 1 (backline): Tino Tavana
Dev spot 2 (utility): Josese Lanyon

NOTE: 1 year contracts for Rahme, Taateo, Hope & Murray as Godinet, T-M & Haywood are upgrades to top 30 in '27. I'd also just do 1 year deals for Mapalangi & Tu'itupou with the likes of Tavana, Brookes, Kanaan, Taotua putting themselves in the frame for '27.

DEPTH CHART:

Highlights that Mapapalangi, Tu'itupou, Rahme, Saukuru & Taateo can be paid close to minimum as they would be unlikely to get a call-up with 3 others above them in each respective position. Also highlights the importance of the versatility of Makasini, Luke Laulilii, Mason, Seyfarth & Sukkar as depth players.

We have most of these players in the squad now, we need to buy 3/4 more NRL standard players

Rumour that Souths are willing to keep Sullivan if we pay 450k of the 600k of his contract next year.

If we’re paying 75% of his salary surely we just keep him as a back up hooker/half.
Ha! Souths are red hot. We've helped those toothless mongs enough over the years. How about, We'd be willing to release him to souths if they pay 450k.

What heights were mentioned?

He was a complete unknown because he'd stopped playing for two years in favour of basketball...

He trialled for a contract after a recommendation by his former Keebra Park team mate Trey Peni -and has outperformed any expectation for a player who landed on the clubs lap through such a circuitous route!!

He has had injury interrupted seasons in 2023-24 - but has shown enough to GOOD judges to see the exceptional talent that he is & will continue to grow into!
