Apisai Koroisau #263

Yeah I couldn't agree with the decision to let TDS go for Api.

I think Benji has had a lot of say in this, letting Api would not have been good for 'team spirit' and Benji doesn't have the respect or experience yet to make those types of calls.

Lets pray Api can aim up for at least next year and the following, certainly a big question mark for 2027.
I think there is a big question mark for 2026?

Oh well, WT have done it again. Extending/signing an already declining aged player to a contract that now has 3 further years to go after the 7 remaining rounds of this season play out.

Api may well still be the heart and soul of the club now, though I expect a pacemaker will be needed to remain that come 2027.

Good news.

I still think he needs to change his style a little bit to ensure his longevity and to suit the team's requirements a little more. But, I've got good faith in him that he'll do it. Seems like the Tigers are wanting to build a culture around Api. Have good fun off the field but all business on it.

He's copping a bit here, but other than the few woopsie moments on the weekend he was really good. His service was way better and opened up space for our halves. His defence was way better, better contact and missed less tackles than before.

Starting him off the bench is the way forward in my opinion. We need to find a player like Elijah Taylor who can fill those first 20 minutes, then come back later to play in the middle.

Wests Tigers are delighted to announce that co-captain Api Koroisau has re-signed with the club until the end of the 2028 season.

A three-time premiership winner and NSW State of Origin representative, Koroisau’s two-year extension reflects the impact he has had on Wests Tigers since arriving ahead of the 2023 season.

The Fijian international was named NRL captain prior to his debut campaign with Wests Tigers and has consistently displayed outstanding leadership qualities, both on and off the field.

Koroisau is pleased to extend his stay at Wests Tigers into the future.

“This club has become family to me. I’ve felt nothing but support from the players, staff, and especially Benji - he’s someone I really admire and enjoy playing under.

“Api is a great player but more so he is the heart and soul of this team.

His leadership, experience and energy are invaluable. Having him commit to our future is massive for the direction we are heading in.

Clever players are as rare as hens teeth.
Cameron Smith was still the best 9 in the game by a country mile when he retired at 37.
Re-signing Api is a fantastic move by the club.

Cam Smith is arguably the greatest player ever.

Api while a champion player and one of the better hookers of the past decade, isn't remotely in that type of conversation.

It's like pointing at Djokovic or LeBron as evidence that old guys can be great. They're exceptions, not the rule.

How many shit teams did Cam ever elevate?

Flat track referee.

You can't under spend on the position that touches the ball most and starts most of our set plays. But we do and hope a new kid with ability comes through. Then we let them go when ready for first grade.
I heard Rich explain the outlay on two hookers especially with a relatively unproven one asking for $600. The opportunity cost of re-signing Da Silva could have been Taylan May.
