$50 Million reason Wests Tigers are prepared to quit Campbelltown.

So it will never work at Campbelltown …apart from the time it did … were crowds for “Tommy’s magpies” any better than now ?

Where are they gunna get juniors from without Campbelltown ? Holy Cross Ryde still playing League ?

Never work at Campbelltown?? I never said that. Didn't you read my post?? Of course it worked I called it the glory days. Tom, my point was that the things that made it 'work' back back in the day have vanished from Campbelltown and that's my damned point. You can't have a footy club somewhere unless you're located out there.

What juniors?? What are we missing out on? Seriously? Galvin shat us out like bad sushi and TDS is off to Parra. Who was the last player we had from Campbelltown to reach 100 games. Probbably Nofa? Thats it.

All I'm saying is, If we are gonna play games at some random place it may as well as be the better equipped one.

Why are we the only club that cares about the economic indicators of a state government? Everywhere is Sydney is about an hour drive. Maybe 1.5 hours max. No other club goes on about it like we do and after 25 years it's returned nothing.

I don't think success and population growth is one pocket of Sydney matters that much. An academy out there would matter far more than where the stadium is.
Mate I agree with you 💯. I think build the academy underneath the grandstand next to the athletics field , and that’s that . Turn Ctown into a fit for purpose elite sports facility .
And play most of our games at one of the bigger stadiums . I’m anti Comm bank , because i haven’t been there since I used to get free tickets to watch the eels play when I was a kid , so there’s an extreme bias there , but out of the 3 whichever one appeals to the majority of the fans I’d be happy with . Even the SFS .

I don’t have these stats either about who is attending games … the numbers are bad , but the results and crappy stadium don’t do much anything to help that I would imagine…

Google AI tells me the population at Campbelltown is expected to increase 36 percent from 2021 to 2045 and these are gunna be in the main young families … I think it would be shortsighted to abandon that area …

Just my opinion of course
I think you misinterpret what I'm saying. Abandoning the area is not what I mean. There is next to zero chance we will not play at Campbelltown. I am saying we need an academy there. That will be the driving force, not where we play each week.

What are we going to do for 2 or 3 years while the stadium gets an upgrade? The kids aren't going anywhere because we won't be playing there.

If you look at Campbo crowds, people get out there when we are winning. Some big crowds in 2005 and 2010/11.

For some reason we seem to have really poor results there the past 3 years, whereas Leichhardt has a 7 from 9 win ratio which is astonishing considering we have only won 17 games so far in 3 years.

I think it has more to do with spreading our games across multiple grounds and the players can't settle.

We did far better when we split the games 6/6 between the grounds.

We can debate this kinda stuff ..but if we look at where we sit today here are the two options …

1. The ground is not upgraded so the club plays elsewhere
2. The ground is upgraded and the club plays there … possibly even the majority of games ..

The rest is really just opinions thst don’t mean much to how this will ultimately work out

Look, we play badly there because no one in our first grade team feels connected to that place. There is no-one in our dressing room that played at that stadium as a kid. Can you imagine if we hadn't won at LO for 2 years?? It'd be a scandall!!! But for Campbelltown its like .... ahh jezz thats a shame....rrrmmm who has $100,000,000 to kill this weird vibe??? No chance....

Leichhardt draws on decades and decades of history but Campbelltown is like half the idea of half of the joint venture. Most people involved in Wests Magpies (your Dennys of this world) wish the club never moved to Ctown in the first place. You can't build your future around that unless you are located out of that area full time.

Yeah lets keep the place on Blaxland road and pay lip service to the area, but just play at Commbank instead. Our team seems to detest playing at Campbelltown.

What’s the record at Commbank ?

You are focusing on where we are playing. I don't care...my point is it doesn't matter. The focus should be on the academy to get local engagement by juniors.

The ground is a secondary issue and is neither here nor there regarding junior retention. I care more about how we can retain and nurture the juniors we have been blessed with in the area. They've been neglected too long.

My preference on the ground topic as a fan? I think 6/6 split because I believe a revamped Leichhardt will be an amazing place to watch football. Will it happen? Don't know and as you point out Richo has made comments about moving to Campbo mostly full-time bar a heritage round or whatever. In saying that, I think he will make a decision based on corporate seating more than anything. Seems strange to lobby the government for 40 million, then reward that with 1 game a year there.

Yes I am focusing on that in this thread about Campbelltown stadium …

I suspect like a 9/3 split is where Is lands … obviously this is still going to be years away even if the money is promised tomorrow

This is a sad reality. Yet, it’s shrugged off by people as if it’s justified. Whereas like you said, if you had a bunch of Ctown kids come through, who had never ventured to the inner west in their lives and they didn’t kiss the LO ring, that would be a scandal. Ctown is the red headed step son no one cares about. Not even a large portion of old Magpie fans whose links belong to Lidcombe. It’s pretty disappointing given how much the area has to offer.

If it was an appealing stadium then things might be different...
