Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I agree that this team probably isn't going to win a premiership. But then I'm the one who has been saying for literally years that the only way this club is going to be competitive in the long term is by developing its own talent from within.

More to the point, we can't sign a bunch of players without getting rid of a bunch - that's how the cap works. So what are you actually asking them to do? Tear it all down and start again, again?

You very rarely get players for unders in free agency. It's a crap way to build a roster as the Titans show year after year. We had got so bad that we were able to go from diabolical to respectable just by bringing in some competent players, but no-one thinks that's the end of the job. Unfortunately, we can't go and drop another few million in the open market.

We have to build from within, doing things like making sure we don't have to sign any more Jack Bird type players because we have cheap young options on hand. That's the plan: start by not being a basket case, build a stable platform, focus on bringing in and developing talent.

There really is no other way to do it, however much we as fans might obsess over pricey free agent signings. How often do you see Penrith or Melbourne make big signings at the top of the market? And it's exactly what Richardson is talking about.
Succinct statement. I agree, it’s a long game approach far longer than any have patients for.
I‘ve often mentioned it’s a waste to bring a key marquee into a struggling side, your right about Melbourne and Penrith on one hand as they stand though Melbourne and Penrith did go through a period of bringing in key Marquee players to help with the growth of their squad.

Yes it is frustrating to see these supposed figures for the Broncos compared to what we pay players of similar if not less ilk.

I guess a few things … are players are attracted to the Broncos for its standing as nearly always being a top 4 thus premiership chance; cheaper cost of living in SEQ than Sydney; and, the 3rd party deals which are heavy at the Broncos.

We just have to be smart & shrewd and bank on better performance getting us to the point where players will take ‘unders’ to come to us or stay with us.

Richo is working hard cutting back on the overpaid it seems. And at the moment we’re trying to attract players through 1) opportunity, 2) the Benji factor & his family first mantra & 3) the Luai/Api/Terrell connections. That’s our sell until our performance on the field has agents knocking down our door.
This is exactly why the salary cap doesn’t work. The top teams have the opportunity to buy players at a discount and the bottom teams (like us) often have to pay a premium. Same overall amount, very different reality. Don’t bag Richo for it. It is what it is

Does that mean Naden got another top 30 contract? we have aim higher then Naden
Nothing yet. Still unsigned for next season.

If we were to resign Naden, he should only be played as a depth fullback or winger imo. He makes too many poor defensive decisions & misses when he defends at centre.

Personally I would love for Naden to be given a shot as our NSW Cup fullback (or Luke L). He is an elusive ball runner, good under the high ball, is a very good talker when marshalling troops and decent in cover defence.

He played fullback as a junior and I think clubs have missed a trick with Nado not giving him more opportunities at the back (and out of the front line where his weaknesses are exposed).

I think he has had his time … just my opinion and nothing against him personally, but give those opportunities in NSW Cup to Luke L…I would like to see Naden get some time in the UK actually to see out his career …

Terrell's 'Mayday' podcast with Benji is an unreal watch. Check out the Terrell May thread for the youtube link. Recommend one & all watch it. These two have such a great connection & such an authentic dive into who Benji is.

Hundred 👍

The cricket guy didn’t work out let’s try the soccer guy. How about a rugby league guy.

I follow the A-league and Mielekamp did a really incredible job with the club. They were barely able to survive financially and he took them to the top of the table. He's highly respected for what he did at the club by the fans and I'm really glad he's been given this role. He was known for creating a strong connection between club and community, and he also oversaw success on the field. Having that experience of doing that at a battling club that struggles financially will be invaluable for us. Too often our appointments don't have a successful track record behind them, but Mielekamp is a really good appointment and I hope it works out. I don't know anything about Betsey and his achievements.

Jesus Christ the stone cold ignorance of some people on here. The guy was largely responsible for the Central Coast Mariners - a franchise so overwhelmed by others in the comp that it makes the Tigers look like the New York Yankees - winning back to back A League titles and the AFC Cup. He might be the most impressive sports administrator in Australia at the moment - getting him on board is potentially absolutely huge for the way the club is run.

And yet we get "how about a rugby league guy". Mindblowing.

Not to mention: "In addition to his experience in football, Mielekamp’s experience is grounded in rugby league – across commercial and marketing – at both the Penrith Panthers and South Sydney Rabbitohs."

So you didn't even get that right.
