They were, they are Oz Cricket Brothers
I’ve thought a bit about Ben and his family, it’s a tough life at times.
Hopefully this mandates that neck guard thing. I think everyone has played park sports of some kind and we all know the facilities are not always the best, but I think it should be like wearing a stack-hat, (do they still call them that?), kids shouldn’t bat without one.
I bet if kids said to M and D, “I going down to stand inside a fenced cage with a piece of 4x2, while others throw red rocks the size of a fist at me,” they’d be asking questions.
I never wore a helmet and all I remember mum saying was ”use that box I bought ya” “Yes mum I will protect my gonads” and my front leg bcoz you would throw a kit pad on. I hope this instigates change, there is plenty of money in cricket, they should take out the filter and let some cash flow down. There is no reason why they can’t have built into the sponsorship contract, like they’ve done before, every 6, or every 50, they give a new kit bag to a local cricket club with 12 helmets fitted with neck guards. Make it Ben’s legacy.
Anyway my best wishes go out to Ben’s Family.

Real sad to hear the news on Ben. I was someone who was significantly taken aback by the passing of Phil Hughes, the anniversary of which is less than a month away so to hear it’s happened again, let alone to a young 17 year old boy is quite devastating. This is a truly unfortunate accident and my best wishes are with the family at this time. Let’s hope the whole community gets around them to support them during this difficult time.

And it always takes tragedy to bring change.
RIP Oz Cricket Brothers

Imagine the poor kid who was bowling to him. Hopefully he has a lot of support. Pretty sure I heard Ben’s dad come out and say it wasn’t his fault, which a huge sign of strength when his emotions would be all over the place. Such a freak thing to happen. Thought the Phil Hughes tragedy caused them to modify helmets. Maybe not at the junior level?

I’m pretty sure a sidearm was being used but still terrible for whoever released the delivery.
The neck guards on helmets were not mandated but strongly encouraged after Phil Hughes I’m pretty sure. Steve Smith initially wore one post Hughes but said it was quite annoying so stopped using it.

All T20’s are trash.
It’s form of sport designed for idiots with tiny attention spans.
Have to agree. NFL and MLB games go for close to 3 hours unless they run into OT. A T20 game lasts about 3 hours as well. It's based on the American model of sports broadcasting where attention spans are as rare as hens' teeth.

I think it was a bowling machine, but yeah there’s still teammates gunna be around.
No, it was definitely a wanger. Apparently the ball hit the young fellow in the neck on the full. It must have slipped out. I've just been down to Kingsgrove Sports to get a neck guard for my grandson who plays under 11. I was told today neck guards are only mandated for professional players. Very few junior helmets have them. Luckily, I found one to fit my grandson's helmet. It's not a perfect fit but it will protect his neck and that's all it needs to do.

I played into my 50s and never once wore a helmet either which is crazy because I wasn't that good a bat.
