Opinions on Best Way Forward

Can I ask a serious question?
Is there a new member of the “gang of four” now that Romero has been eliminated? Or is it now known as the “gang of three?”
I would have thought the numbers very important?

I can only see the small steps taken under Richardson - with a view to improvement and a change of perception about the club - stalled. Now all is reliant on the performance of the current team. If the team doesnt fire I see us losing any decent players we have, and the club just making up the numbers like we have for the last 10 plus seasons - while the dopes we have running the place keep knocking each other off while pretending to have clue.
There is zero evidence to suggest under HBG control this club can thrive. All they have demonstrated is a will to maintain control on the back of personal self interest.

Im not that interested in member voted positions, whoever is voted on is on a hiding to nothing as they are there to represent the fans but have no ability to really enact change as they are in the minority.

What I would like to see is independent directors appointed through an outside recruitment agency based of a skills matrix.

Just like we had for the independents before the HBG blew it all up. That is how you get high calibre people onto your board.
Plus you get people who don’t have a clue and wouldn’t bother to educate themselves voting for someone bcoz the have a nice moustache 🥸 just bcoz they have a membership.

So has anything come of the WT fan march? Was anything achieved or in motion to be achieved? Did it turn the right heads?

The skills that were covered before do we need to persist with or is that area been completed and we need to move on to the next phase.
I believe having someone with

Political ties (O’FARRELL)

Finance (Viola)

Business Connections (McDowell)

Sport Governance (WILLIAMS)

Are all skills to allow us to set up our club fir long term success. Sadly we flushed these highly successful people and some are unlikely to return.

I’ve given this question some thought.

The best way forward?

The NRL would need to give both foundation clubs what they want.

Give Magpies a stand alone agreement at 50% valuation and likewise Balmain handed to a wealthy consortium.

While it’s possible both may fail, there’s a very strong chance both may exceed expectations given the fierce rivalry that would develop and the ensuing territorial pathways battle.

Gosh, it may even shift the Magpies focus from attacking each other to working as a team to do better than Balmain Tigers.

PVL needs to start planning for the split now so that both teams hit the ground running when the hereditary deed expires.

I say this with a heavy heart, because for 20 years I’ve become attached to Wests Tigers.

I would rather an amicable split than to be continually punished every offseason by blowups and sackings with part of the organisation altruistically trying to win footy games and the other gang motivated by self interest.
C’mon Peter V’Landys, it needs to stop mate?

@cochise Do you know if anything came of that petition that was signed by Wests Ashfield members while we were at Pratten Park?

Youd then create a whole generation of fans that have lost their club...and many of the older generation would feel that way too.
Id foresee.natual attrition taking its course and the only beneficiaries would be parra and the dogs.
Then last time.i lost my club i daw it for what it was
..an urgent necessity.
This time would just be such a waste...the.potential sleeping giant powerhouse we could be unable to be realised due to self serving ego and status seekers continially and selfishly lookng at the past

I hear what you’re saying Ink, the options in 1999 were limited..have a hybrid team or fade away into oblivion.
It’s different now, it’s an urgent necessity but with options, a fan base can have the time for a managed migration, that in some ways for many would be sliding into an old pair of favourite slippers.
It can work. My only concern would be a Magpie self destruction?

No thanks, I support the Wests Tigers

I dont think i would.like that...i dont like the sounds of it now.
If it happened i dont know how id feel.
I say this because i thought i knew in 99 that once the.maghies were gone that was it for.me....but.curiosity for the first couple of WTs sesaons eventually turned to support.
My first live game when the tigers chant went up...was very strange and awkward...time changed that.

But i couldnt go back i was in my 30s then....in my 60s now

Yeh, that’s my team too. But there are some powerfull untouchables hellbent on self destruction.
Looking at the situation is like watching a kangaroo with a broken leg and doing nothing.
If a split did occur, I probably wouldn’t have a favourite team anymore, wouldn’t invest so much into any other team, but I do love the game.

So true, if this team doesn’t have a good season, and by that I mean somewhere around the eight or better, the whole club could sink to the cellar again for decades. To be honest with the current board structure and our roster, we are going to need every fifty fifty call go our way and be blessed by the injury god to achieve a top eight finish. Being poorly governed and under funded make success near impossible

I know, I was a Balmain fan, grew up in the area. Lost interest in the game for a few years. Only got interested again when a mates son started playing with WT. I had sponsorship thoughts, but things became too whimsical. My post was purely thoughts on a prosperous
solution without emotional attachment to any interested group.
In the scheme of things the joint venture didn’t give us time to adjust and withdraw/correct our stance on the changes.
We all have had to consider changes in our lives, some small, some big, but if changes are well managed, thats when the magic happens.
And they need to be well managed when so many people are emotionally invested.
My hope is that WT become a powerhouse of success. But in my lifetime I know it will never happen without a strong pathways program and supportive stable management.

Pains me to say, there’s no chance we’re getting anywhere near the 8.
I strongly believe this latest upheaval has taken the wind out of the sails.
The strong management, stability, and care factor from the top is a crucial element for success.
Will we be able to convince a player to sign on for more than 1 year? If by some chance a player manager accepts their player being handcuffed for more than a season there will need to be a handcuff loading. We’ve seen it already with Luai. Cap management just increased its level of difficulty.
When we’re behind on the scoreboard against a better team what motivates players? Where do they find that extra 5%? I mean, when they think they don’t have it? Family friends fans, love of the game? Teammates.? Coaching staff? Club and those who preside at the top?

I would happily wear an entirely black or white or variations thereof jersey as long as the team was wests tigers...thats coming from an ex balmain supporter. The hang up ppl have about the colours is ridiculous. Only thing the orange has going for it is its distinctive...maybe a good away jersey colour. The whole idea that it has to be the colour of the mascot is a non argument.

G'day TheEnz...if you celebrate Christmas, I'd like to wish you a Very Happy and Safe one.

As a dude that is lucky enough to follow Wests Tigers and Wests Magpies, I'm curious as to how you'd feel about this idea.

A black jersey and a white jersey [as you suggested] both with orange Tiger stripes on the shoulders as it is now, the Tigers emblem on one side of the chest with the Western Suburbs Magpies emblem [not just the Magpie] on the other side.
I reckon that combo would look awesome.
