Cricket Season Thread

I do agree but I think every test nation has the same issue so I think the quality of test cricket is nosediving. Poor techniques, less patience annd resilience. Poor fan attention spans. Yesterday was entertaining none the less.

Why play 5 days of physical and mental torture when you can get paid more to play a game of 20/20?

IMO They need to go to 4 day tests asap or the system falls apart.
I agree with the T20 influence on the players coming through, but I am not convinced going to 4 days is a magical fix for an impatient mindset at the crease. You’re just making test cricket more like T20.
How about they give us a decent pitch for a start. This and the Perth pitches were below average, but Perth was rated as good? Just bcoz you had some toktikers and facetweetrs creaming themselves calling 17 wickets in a day exciting doesn’t make it a good test match or pitch.
I can’t remember who it was but someone on here said after the 17 wickets in a day at Perth, “that was the best cricket they had ever seen”? I found that comment ridic, that is a T20 lollipop fan if I ever heard one.
They need to give the players a chance to give us a spectacle that last for four to five days. Get the decisions correct, and make sure ya equipment is working otherwise you just look an amateur.
I want 5 day tests and real tests.

I agree with you. I love the contest of 5 days. I just think the game needs to adapt or they lose the space all together. Grounds, broadcasters and cricket organizations don’t like losing money.

It’s funny though, it was only a few years ago when the pitches were all roads and the pressure was on for them to be livened up for the bowlers.

It was only ever supposed to be a bit of fun, something no one took seriously. Then it caught on. Got casuals interested, and a quick game is a good game as they say. But it caught on too much. It made the 50 over game totally obsolete. I don’t think that format would exist anymore if not for the World Cup. And its now slowly eroding Test cricket. Another 20 years and Test cricket will be dead too

Yeah, you’d reckon after 100 years we’d of worked out how to grow grass suitable for a four to five day contest? Obviously give or take the odd war, Chinese virus, micro plastics and the invention of drop in pitches, not a great deal has changed.

Bolo gone.

(disclaimer: Mr Hair mentored me when I did a cricket umpire's course back in the day - I found him such a straight shooter and very grounded)

Former Test umpire Darrell Hair believes the money on offer to cricket officials has become a deterrent for them to report suspect bowling action

You can’t get rid of 20/20 as it is financially lucrative.
We need to move more towards removing it as a form of the sport.
It isn’t cricket, it’s just 20/20.
Same as Oztag and Touch players aren’t considered footballers.

Fun Fact (or not)

England haven’t won a Test in Australia since their Sydney win in the 2010/11 Ashes, coinciding with the Wests Tigers getting into the finals in the NRL.

Strewth!
Depressing for the Poms, and for me - no words as a Wests Tigers fan .....................
