Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Was confident of Bula being extended until the cruise missile blew up the joint, don't know what the F is going to happen now.
I don't know why people would be confident on this.
We fired his girl from the Womens team.

I suspect that would matter more to him then any board trouble. Although he may (or may not) have had respect for Shane Richardson.

what is the Wests Tigers strategy to win the hearts of kids in South West Sydney?

Very complex question.

Look at Macarthur in the A League, has this team captured Campbelltown locals hearts?

I think it is a social and economic question as well.

Unless any club win in the region of a winning ratio of a top 4 team i don't think they will capture any hearts no matter what any club does.

Its a fickle area to commercialise
The Southwest is a mixing pot of so many cultures, people moving from other parts of the city/country. They are not all a blank canvas waiting to be won over.
Many support other teams already, others just don't give a stuff about footy. It's the toughest region in the country to build support

His wife didn't even make the bench once last season, for the worst team in nrlw history. And not a standout in lower grades either.
We didn't exactly fire her, her footy career just came to an end... If her husband is on big money she doesn't need to play to help her family financially

I see a few people mention this, but she wasn't even playing in the main women's team; it was the second grade... So if she was dumped from that, considering how bad our women's team went last year, maybe she only got the contract because of Jahreem in the first place ?

That is a very general assumption. Two of the worst juniors showing a lack of loyalty were Moses and a Club captain with a postcode tattoo.
Moses wasn’t a tigers junior mate . He was basically Galvin 1.0 , an eels junior rejected , who came here for an opportunity , got it , and at first light ran back .
And woods ? Is that who you’re talking about … the guy has less brain cells than my dog .
Also there’s a clear word in what I wrote “generally” it assumes the allowance of variation .

Great post, can't disagree with anything you've said.

It poses the question; what is the Wests Tigers strategy to win the hearts of kids in South West Sydney?

We are already 25 years behind.

My nephew lives 10km from Campbelltown and he was very close to following his other uncle's footsteps and following the Broncos. The Tigers have not been to his school once and he's about to start year 5; I find that insane.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the Magpies vs. Balmain divide is still the core issue here. I don’t see HBG putting real money into the Wests Tigers brand in Campbelltown when it feels like it’s competing with their own Magpies identity. If I were Peter V’landys, I’d issue a 'use it or lose it' ultimatum: either the Tigers commit to the Macarthur region properly, or we open the gates to a club like the Bulldogs who actually want to be there. It’s a drastic move, but it might be the only way to force their hand
I agree , I’ve been a big advocate for Wests tigers - MacArthur and Wests tigers- Balmain .
People laughed at me but the visual reinforcement the kids get at panthers training of looking over at the nrl training fields and saying “one day” is just clever manipulation.
We can’t do that because of geography, but having clear links , almost a graduation from the academy at wests Sydney uni to the nrl team in concord , at the very least should be implemented.
Constant engagement in the community re. The schools should be annoyed the tigers are there again , rather than begging us to turn up , a winning football team in the nrl is pretty obvious and IMO a partnership with the MacArthur Bulls . Both clubs should run joint clinics . Little Johnny might come from an ethnic family who only ever thought about football . He turns up to a clinic , gets and footy under his arm … and he’s away . And likewise . Maybe little Timmy is from a legacy nrl family , and goes to a clinic and finds kicking the round ball is his thing .
The real threat to juniors isn’t organised sport it’s kids not seeing the benefit in doing any of it. By combining resources between 2 clubs who really arnt at all in competition with each other , should also output a strong message . MacArthur is Bulls . MacArthur is tigers.
That’s at least where I’d start . Strong connective tissue and links to the nrl team through probably a graduation , and stronger links to other organisations to help out roots into the community , outside of the work already being done re. Schools, clinics, advertising etc.
But it is tough , that area is historically transient . It’s the same issues the GC have had since the late 80s. How do you engage a community who views where they live as either a holiday , or some place to escape . Not a place to put down roots .
