Aston Villa were on a generational run but the streak is over
They broke a 111-year-old winning record in the process and are still sitting comfortably in third.

But there was some controversy in the last game of the 2025 calendar:

Central Coast Mariners interim coach Warren Moon has blasted his former club Brisbane Roar for the “conduct” of their staff, which led to police involvement during Wednesday night’s 2-1 loss in Gosford.

The Boro start the New Year with a narrow 0-1 loss to Derby.

Middlesbrough dropped out of the Championship automatic promotion spots after Bobby Clark stunned the Teessiders with a second-half winner for Derby County.

It took a string of saves from Jacob Widell Zetterstrom to give the Rams hope of upstaging Boro, with the Sweden international denying Hayden Hackney, Tommy Conway and Delano Burgzorg either side the break.

QPR commence 2026 with a disappointing loss, 1-2 against visitors, Norwich City.

Josh Sargent and Jovon Makama were on target as Norwich boosted their survival hopes with a first away win under Philippe Clement.

Sargent converted Matej Jurasek's cross in the opening minute of the second half to set the Canaries on course for a victory that lifts them to within a point of safety.

Both teams opted to shuffle the pack following their respective defeats three days earlier, with QPR boss Julien Stephan making eight changes to his starting line-up and Clement making three.

Those changes may have contributed to a disjointed first 45 minutes, with the game conducted at a lively pace without either side managing to get on top to any great degree.

Rangers went close through Steve Cook, whose glancing header from a corner flew across goal, and Rumarn Burrell latching onto a knockdown from strike partner Richard Kone only to be denied by Vladan Kovacevic at his near post.

QPR boss Julien Stephan told BBC Radio London: "It was a disappointing performance, especially in the second half. We had a lot of difficulty to keep the ball and create something collectively.
