2026 squad - still not good enough

I'm sure this will be met with resistence, but I think Seyfarth will have a breakout season off the bench in 26. At times last year he looked really tired; I put that down to him being a new dad (it's different for everyone). Tiredness = more brain farts...

I also think we will see the best of twal and pole.

If we get uplifts from all 3, then that will make a big difference for our pack.

I also hate the new kick of rule, but for a team who always gets the short and of the stick with momentum penalties, it could work in our favour.

I know what you mean. There's a decent first grader there somewhere, but he's also pretty hot headed in a really stupid way at times. Other times you look and he's carrying the footy like he's still in high school. I'm not sure he has a talent celling that's worth it but I guess we find out more this season.

Twal is one of those great club servants like Skando or Buckets. Sheens always says in podcasts that 05 really happened on the back of a lot of the old honest pros putting it together for one red hot season. Twal had his best season for us last year and I hope he goes even better this time around.

My run on side round 2 , I think we are close to a top 8 team if they all perform well in each game , go the distance and not let games slip with 10 or 15 to go but most important not start 12 or 16 points down after first 20 both these things were an issue last season where we had to chase or we just could not finish teams off specially in the 10 to 15 out area , we just didn’t have that last punch .

Bulla
Skelton , May , Toa , Turuva
May , API , Bunty ( Bunty first 15 ) then Pole
Sam F , Twal , KPP
AD , Luai
Hunt - Pole - Madden - Sione - ( Macca , Geyer )

Re Elliot.

Guys, 2 years ago maybe he would be a good signing. Heck 2025 I would have signed him in a heartbeat because of the people we had lost. 2025 we were so lucky to have Terrell May, otherwise we would have No pack.

Right now he played 7 games for Newcastle and they came last.

Unless he was going for min value, i.e. 130k a season or not much more. I wouldn't give him a look in.
I class him the same as Klemmer now. Great player in prime, past their used-by date.
Bennett sees something. but think it’s because Souths lost their main man.
As I mentioned elsewhere I think Elliot is over the hill and I’m glad we didn’t pursue.

Every year I match our roster against all the other rosters and try and find 8 rosters that are equal or worse than ours. For the past decade I have not come close to finding those 8 clubs. This year we have bridged the gap but still are short of the mark. Of course every year you get a team that under achieves and another that over achieves, so it’s not a fool proof system.

Our team sadly lacks an out and out game breaker and a player with a top notch kicking game. Till we get those two things winning 50% or more of our games will be a struggle. Of course the HBG saga will take a toll despite the stuff being released by the football club that it doesn’t worry them

I'd love to see the full power rankings for this Season @supercoach

And which years were you most and least accurate with the tigers?

I think Taylan May could be our X factor - only played 7 games last year after a long lay off and really hit the ground running. With a pre season under his belt and if he keeps his head in the right space i'm expecting big things from him. I also hope that KPP can throw off the shackles he had put on him at Newcastle and show us what he has really got.

Over the past decade except for last year I have been either on the money or maybe one or two places out in my preseason selection. Last year I was out by a bit as I thought they would finish second last. This year I see us finishing between 10 th and 12th and that is optimistic. Of course injuries, suspension and bad luck can make or break any team

Your assessment sounds credible SC but I ( and other oldies on here) are dreaming of an 8 this year, followed by a 4 in 27.
Please let us dream a little longer !

Question marks over which Toa and Bula will take the field- i hope they fire and stay firing. Also our halves need to organise and provide spark. All doable but the mental toughness has not been our strong point for a long time. Go WT.

Taylan isn't X factor. He's just very strong close to the line. But he's not very fast.
We'rea very pedestrian side. Grind and power but not really any backs with X factor, nor any line breaking forwards. Saukuru is our best bet there, with young Godinet developing too.

We need pace and power. Nearly all our banks are way too slow. You can have 1-2 backs who aren't express but we really don't have anyone fast. Bula occasionally is, most of the time he just jogs though. Makasini maybe.

We need some of our players to really improve.

Pole and Fainu brothers are the key for me. (Maybe Seyfarth as well, about to hit his prime)

I think we need really need these guys to go to another level.

And the good thing is, I think they have it in them.

I reckon we have enough strike but our pack needs to rise a level.

If our pack can get over the opposition in the game...we win the match...simple

Some soufflés just don’t rise. The “thrive or survive “ message has been given plenty of time to marinate.

I may be proven wrong but I have a suspicion that Hunt could be an x-factor for us this year off the bench. Apparently, getting two tries in our last game shifted something in him and he made sure to stay fit and get in shape this offseason. Looked good at training, too.

Also, think Bunty is a solid addition. If Pole finds his form again and with Sione improving every year, we could have a 5-prop rotation that gives punch through the middle. Fingers firmly crossed.

Feel like Seyfarth may struggle to make the full strength 17.

He'll land a few games of course but playing around with line ups, I've got KPP & Samuela starting back rowers and all depends who makes the bench where Seyf fits in.

I've got

14. Latu
15. Sione
16. Royce
17. Bunty

Maybe he takes Buntys place.
We will see.
