Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

And the stories of him getting pushed out reports he is on around 800K mite be worth asking about
I remember hearing someone mention his current contract is 900k per season.
His exposed form is a lot better than Bula, but 2026 is a new year and Bula might live up to his price tag and if that happens we wouldn’t be swapping him.
If we do come to the conclusion that Bula is looking to leave us, we should be headhunting Jaxon Purdue who clearly has a much higher ceiling than Drinkwater.

Drinky is basically the pre-Benji Doueihi of fullbacks. Defence is optional and sometimes you just pretend to defend. Absolute weapon with ball in hand but my god his defensive efforts would drive me mad if he played on our team.
Not just the defence but he might have the least respect for the ball in the league. It makes him dangerous for both teams on game day.
Slightly better than league average on his day, but his worst will lose you games single handed.
If he's in 900k no wonder cowboys are in strfe.
Purdue on the other hand, him id pay big bucks

Drinkwater couldn't tackle a brown paper bag. Assists tries 30 times and let's in 40. I wouldn't take him if he was 200k. Sorry but defence is too.impprtant at the back.

The Cowboys think the same about Purdue I would be ringing Todd and ask if I was Benji nothing formal just a chat

Drinkwater is a good ball player. As it is we might have a ballplaying 13 sooner rather than later, plus Api. Thats a lot of chefs.

Running game, positional play, defence have to be first rate for the balance of our squad.

A catch and pass and ability to draw are important, but don't need a hybrid 5/8 at fullback in my opinion in a team that probably lacks a 7 and has 3 guys who would be most at home at 6.

I agree that Jaxon could be anything however Drinkwater is a known quantity and his experience would be invaluable. Only question mark for me would be his ability to organize the defense, cows have a horrible defensive record. Not sure if its down to him though. If we are looking to build to a serious tilt at a premiership in 2-3 years i would consider Purdue, if we want to have a serious crack in the next 2 years i would take drinkwater.

I cant help but think a premiership window for us in the next 5 years would only be achieved with a mentality of we can score more points than you. I don't see the current squad being a defensive powerhouse.

Purdue is currently off contract and available for 2027.
The Cowboys have publically stated they have offered him a new deal and as he has not yet accepted, I assume he is after more money.
If we keep Jahream and he lives up to his price that will be fantastic
If Jahream decides to leave and we throw all his money at Purdue I think we would land him.
As the old saying goes “ If one door closes, another one opens”

If people have a problem with Bula's defence at times, they would [This word has been automatically removed]ing lose their minds if Drinkwater ever played fullback for us. Great attacking player, probably the worst defensive fullback in the game bar none. A firm no from me. We need to be all in on Bula.

Yeah, but Drinky is a Terrigal lad - so you need to factor in his brilliant heritage !

I watched him play in Vegas and he has real talent, just can't see the Cowboys letting a player of his calibre go, they will end up paying close to what he wants and probably tap Drinkwater on the shoulder a year early in 27.

Plus, it's difficult to prise the good ones out of Queensland, when was the last one we signed from the north that was in demand and he will be.

The Cowboys would obviously want to keep Purdue at all costs, but I don’t think they are coming to the party with the contract money he is looking for.
My best mate lives in Mackay, knows the family and says it sounds like he is open to going anywhere for the right money.
I’ve said this many times before and it’s absolutely no disrespect to Jahream, but any club looking for a fullback and having the choice of spending 1 million dollars per season on either Purdue or Jahream, everyone’s first choice would be Purdue.
The Bulldogs, Sharks and Dragons are all on the lookout for a fullback, they will all offer Purdue 1 million per season to play fullback before they offer that same money to Jahream.
That is not being mean or disrespectful, it’s just reality and I have been preaching about this for the past 12months.
