Mel Schilling, the relationship expert best known for her role on Married at First Sight Australia and the UK, has tragically passed away aged 54.
RIP

It comes just weeks after Schilling shared a devastating health update on social media, sharing that her cancer, which she has been battling since December 2023, had spread to her brain, leaving her oncology team with "nothing further they can do".

Jeez. I need this shite on a football forum.
We really do need this. We need to be reminded that we're not immortal and we owe it to our families to look after ourselves.
Mel Schilling admitted that she ignored symptoms.
Only 40% of people actually do the bowel cancer test kit, 60% ignore it.
I did the test and it came back positive, luckily I only had a few polyps and I'm ok, but in the interim while I was waiting 2 months for the colonoscopy I had convinced myself I would die. It changed my life. I now eat differently and I've dropped 10kg's because I want to be around for my family.
So yeah we do need this on here. The ads. obviously aren't working, maybe reading it on a place like this from people just like you will help shake the complacency.
If you have a test kit please do it.
Colonoscopies are a breeze. You go under, you wake up, and you won't believe they did anything at all, but it really can save your life. Bowel cancer is very very treatable in it's early stages.

DO THE TEST KIT!

Well said!!...and as a prostate cancer survivor of 14 years....men over 35 get your blood PSA check EVERY year...any reading above 3.5 should be investigated!

If you're a younger person reading this thinking "well that only applies to those old farts" I'll just point out that early onset bowel cancer in Australia has surged by 65% since 2005.
It's likely to be due to the amount of processed food we eat.
Don't ignore symptoms. Early detection is a goal kick from 10m in front of the posts to fix. Once it spreads you're kicking from the sideline on halfway.

We do need a little bit of this info now and then , to many people leave things and don’t get checked out , Bowl cancer found early is treatable , prostate cancer early is treatable , pancreatic cancer caught early is treatable to a lesser degree but life expectancy is added f treated , I currently have chemo for my pancreatic cancer , it’s terminal with treatment / chemo only trying to slow or half the growth , Feb 2025 I had pain in the abdomen, prior to Feb nothing , no tablets for any illness at all , off to the doctor , blood tests after blood test , pee test , poop test and after 4 months doc decided to do the down the throat and up the bum camera , the doc the does the pre entry said can I just have a feel of you stomach, she pressed down once and ordered a CT scan as well , 2 days later off to doctor and he said I have cancer , off to Royal Brisbane 1 week later and meet surgeon , he said I can’t help you it’s wrapped around main artery and other parts ,I said what’s that mean he said with lots of apology, 6 to 18 months to live , that meeting took all of 10 minutes , wait 2 hours then up to oncology, he said same thing and hoped the chemo would help , august chemo started and I’m still going but things change , 26 kg weight loss , hair loss , fingers and toes loose feeling , fatigue is constant but manageable , loads of tablets as. Chemo / pancreatic cancer causes diabetes, pain in gut area is 24/7 so pain killers as well , scans next month to see if growth slowed , last scan was only a small increase in size so oncology said the life time would start again , with percentages ,original was 6 months 100% , 12 months 50 % , 18 months 15 % , to live , we see what happens , I write this to make sure you understand , get checked , I got checked as soon as I had the pain but it was already to late , pancreatic cancer is a silent killer , most people 80% who get checked after feeling abdominal pain last 12/18 months , so if you get gut pain get to the doc early , if your over 50 I would ask your doctor for a CT scan on chest and abdomen , if need to bullshit them and say it’s in the family as it’s a slow process getting a CT scan , the scan will also have the prostate in it so can cover that as well , , get in early , do the poop test both ladies and gents , do a blood test for prostate cancer , ladies check your body for lumps and bumps , just get in early , don’t wait or YOU could be next to find out some real life changing bad news , believe me you don’t want it and your family don’t want it , get checked NOW

Cheers mate and thanks for your kind words , but spot on early detection can save your life , you stay well and keep fighting ,

Never let doctors gaslight you by saying oh you are too young for bowel cancer, I lost a younger relative to it and almost a 2nd one , in his early 20s. He was told no you are too young, luckily for him his mother refused to accept that and demanded more tests, results came back stage 3-4. After many many rounds of treatments he is now clear and hopefully will stay that way.
426 keep fighting, I can’t imagine the battles you face but know that everyone wishes you all the best. All you guys that are going through cancer or other illnesses, hang in there and try to stay positive, even though I know it must be so draining. Big hugs to all of you. 🥰

I put off doing the COLONSCOPY because of my job for 3 years did my colonoscopy yesterday came back in very good shape told see you in 5 years which is a mental and physical relief, will not do that ever again. Get checked is the simple message.

426 stay strong and positive.
