The euphoria of a single NRL win will make some people crazy.
I give you Fruit Pascals as my example, he was happy just to sell a hat.
He was always a good coach. Imagine working underal.Meninga and that committee.

I had some thoughts on him...
1. He plays games. It seemed that he was whiteanting the dogs coaches to try and get the head coach job there. This may have been after Cronulla and some percieved unfairness, but it really seemed poor in character.
2. Ricky Stuart was coaching a spooner side. But Ricky is a coach who knows a few things. He would have had the side drilling defensively and while he was loosing games (in part due to a stack of players departing + Ben Ross neck injury), Ricky was building the side. Flanno at the dragons is left with a non-Ricky built side and it shows.
3. ignoring the drugs scandal, Cronulla did have some really prime players. Gallen, Luke Lewis, Ben Barba, Maloney... Who does St George have? Sloan?
Credit where credit is due. Flanno took the Sharks to the finals. I still recall Ben Barba lining up in the scrum, Melbourne had packed the scrum with forwards as usual and Gallen hands the ball to Barba close to the try line. IMHO brillant coaching.
At the Saints, Flanno has been going for quick fixes and big $$$ contracts to get names there. This has failed him.

The only reason strap is wearing the 6 jersey is because the 7 is too bog on him. C’mon tigers.

jury is out on many teams. I don’t think any team but Penrith deserve confidence. Overconfidence in our team right now is silly. Would love a win tomorrow but won’t be surprised if we get a reality check.

Holbrook is a good coach and was building at the Titans
They have some good young forwards coming on and have I love the two Fletcher's alot of spark and the guy who came on for Best today has some raps on him but they have a good mix of old heads and younger players

I doubt Siebold will be coaching NRL for some time now. He'll now be an assistant coach or he might go to union.
Not being in the sheds with them I can't really comment on Seibold's or Flanagan's ability to coach, but one thing you can really point to in the downfall of both the Sea Eagles and the Dragons is just how bad their recruitment has been. Outside of Val Holmes and Kobe Hethrington as a benchie, I can't think of one player they've recruited in the last few years that would fill you with any kind of hope. The Dragons are in on everyone, never seem to land a big fish (except Keaon, but he's not worth the money they paid), and end up jagging guys that are either past it or proven to be bog average. Similarly, the Sea Eagles seem to specialise in signing guys that are bog average and largely from terrible systems like ours. It must be infuriating to be one of their fans. They just don't seem to have a vision for the style of football they want to play or the players they need to execute that style.
I think that's one thing Benji and the club really deserves credit for - they've actively gone about shaping the roster to fit the style of footy they want to play. Sure, some of it is chicken and egg stuff, but our recruitment over the last couple of years has been among the best in the league and we're gradually starting to reap the rewards of it.

Yea Holbrook is a good coach. Agreed.
I mean he took the titans to 8th, then 14th from memory.
I had the knights pegged as Wooden Spooners. Instead they are looking like a top 4 side.
Zero tackle rated their halves as 15th in the competition and they have lost two stars in Ponga and Dylan Brown...
Seriously this is a Wayne Bennett or Ivan Clearly like effect on the team. Holbrook could be the next supercoach.

I get it but the Dragons picked their roster.
Sure Gutho and Cook were past their prime, that said they are both good footballers who would show leadership. Flanno designed the roster and while he did not get the big fish he wanted (he made a 1.2m offer for Manu), he got people he went after.
Manly seemed to be doing something different. I mean sure they haven't recruited too much, but they always seemed to have a fair bit of talent around. The real test was loosing DCE and it showed.
Spot on.
Sheens recruited plodders to play his fast footy style. Good signings, well they looked that way.
But people NOT suited to his style.
Benji got a good bounce on recruitment AND has with the Tigers actually turned the team into the team he wanted. It was said of Hazlier at the dogs that he actually coached to the team, he adapted himself and the style to the dogs strengths. Nope, the Wests Tigers are following a Marshall playbook and playing style.
