Council pick ups...

I picked up a music stand, and realized that over the years, one man's trash can become another's treasure. But also, in a throw away society we live in, this may be one of the last bastion's of our parent's generation?

Never seen anything "unusual" but heard many stories (discarded dentures; a false eye; a plastic skull to name some I recall). It seems also that lots of "second hand dealers" circle around, when the clean ups are on...

Gym equipment.
Once found a bench in decent nick.with leg/hammy attachment...barbell and about 80kg plates...lucky i had a station wagon back then about 25 years back

The cupboard i did a thread on that the missus wanted...had to sand it all,.restain and replace some hinges

Not much decent quality stuff tossed.out these day its all cheap chinese garbage or ikea.crap

We live near an.industrial area that has a rail line ...lots of old style 30s and.40s brick bungalows being sold and new duplexes built in place...people sell the house and.leave pianos behind...see so many dumped near this train line over the years

When.i bought my place it had a fireproof filing cabinet in the garage that weighed 10 tonnes...i made.sure it was in the contract that it stayed put when i sold

When working as a part time"Sanitation Engineer" aka "garbologist" for Marrickville council back around 1999/2000 we found TWO full bins of VHS porno movies behind the shops in one of the main roads going out to Dulwitch Hill. Great find as we got $10 each for them back at the General Gordon & Tempe Hotels.

The other best buy was a commercial vacuum cleaner that was even better than the Kirby my ex wife got conned into forking out over a grand for, it lasted over 10 years from when I found it put out with rubbish near a newly built apartment block I was tiling at. I also scored 3 three half filled 20 litre tins of Tradex base coat paint & a near full 20 litre bucket of waterproof membrane liquid.

Just admit you only made $20 from the videos as you took the rest home!

New of an inner city council department many moons ago that filled their sheds ,because a lot was last years model , or a dirty spark plug,.
They all sold their stash , for a a milestone celebration amongst the crew

Not council pick ups, but as someone who exercises regularly, you never know what you’ll come across on the side of the road. Came across a 50 dollar note one time.
Haha...i had that experience once at Brooklyn..was with my ex walking on the footpath...another.couple walking towards us about 20m away....we both spotted the pineapple at the same time but i was just a bit quicker.
Waited for him to come up with some BS .claim, "oh it mine i dropped it" but he just chuckled and.smiled sourly

There was only 4 different movies, there were dozens of each copy. I remember one involved Nurses and one of the others was a MFF "Thruple" travelling Europe & enjoying some boobs out hitchhiking & nude skiing and shenanigans in the Chalet spa!

Pretty poor quality but sold them all in 2 days, only because a bunch of guys wanted me to hold it for them until the following day.

When my family and I were last down in Sydney on our way home from a holiday road trip to Mudgee & then to the Tigers v Raiders game last season at GIO.
We parked in the outdoor carpark at Campbelltown Mall on the last row before the exit way to the ramp on the railway side. As soon as I got out of the car I saw a $100 note blowing towards me about 2 spots down, ran and put my foot on it before it went under the car next to ours.

I tried getting my partners attention, when I did I discreetly showed her (from the other side of the car) the $100 note and she just laughed, little did I know but she had just picked up TWO MORE $100 notes, I kid you not!!

We looked around but there was no one within cooee of us, no one was sitting in their car near us so we kept looking around the area, slyly looking under cars but didn't find anymore money.

That paid for an extra night in the Maclin Lodge, dinner across the road at Rashays & missus let me get a black leather jacket from Tarocash that I had mentioned I liked at one time as it was reduced from $249 to $149.

It was great trip away, we took my then 13 yo ASD daughter to her first West Tigers game, she got a photo with her heros Romy, Turuva, Bulla & of course Benji. Just a pity the boys couldn't come up with a win & Skelton copped a nasty injury.😐
The Missus & I came home with $500 bucks in , Butterscotch Schnapps, Coffee Liqueur, Port, Wine & some beer cans from 2 local brewers. We also blew another hundred + on honey, Mead, cheeses & craft chocolate 😬 . Finding the money was a bonus that capped all that off and gave us the cash for another night to see my eldest son & to get decent night sleep ready for 300km+ escape from the city back home to "Gods Country" on the beautiful Mid Nth Coast.

When it comes to money, it’s first in, best dressed imo. There’s no way for anyone to prove cash is their’s. You definitely have no obligation to ask around.
