LIVE GAME Round 10 v Storm

Live Game Discussion
So Grant was not charged with his elbow to the neck of Latu....sounds about right. Didn't Tino break Api's jaw with a raised elbow a couple of seasons ago and no charge...I see raised elbows every game and have not seen a single charge until this one.

It's so hard to take this game into perspective when you're 20-0 down in 15 minutes and have had 30% posession in the first half.

Same with the Sharks second half.

Do we look for a solution by finding a team that knows how to change momentum or do we find a team that doesn't let such a momentum build in any way.

When there is a team with momentum like Sharks and Storm last couple of weeks, the whole year, every team has struggled to wrestle it back. Hence why the whole winners kick off was suggester at the start of the year.

Honestly lost for answers. The team definitely should have done much better but when they're making line breaks left, right and centre- it's hard to defend in a line.

I am just really deflated with officiating this season. Not just our games as I know I have some unconcious bias but just in general. Results of games are coming down to the referee & these bloody six agains and inconsistency between how they are applied to each team in a game.

Unfortunately it seems the teams who are delving into their depth players are struggling to wrestle back momentum. Quality teams/players can but once teams are into players 22-30 in their squad, fitness levels are less in those players, mental resilience levels are less & combinations are less solid.

Cant understand how we got hit by the ref losing both the penalty count and the 6 again count
Game stat our average play the ball speed 3.8 secs and the
Storm a very fast 3.2 secs
So they were better at slowing down the ruck but we were the one punished
And a few were on the 5th tackle which really hurts

I assume you mean the way they're being asked to officiate and the rule changes than the officiating itself.

I Don't even blame refs anymore because there has been so many changes.

NRL is quite a professional organisation so they would've gone through all their stats and figured out that the best way to engage more viewers is to have more play the balls.

Previously, the NRL wanted more stoppages to put more Ads in but the ads revenue would've dried up now that betting agencies can't advertise during the game. Increasing PTBs means more stuff happens during games. If NRL wanted more fatigue in the game, they would've reduced interchanges and wouldn't have made a 6 men bench.

They think all they need to change rules and penalised hip drops because more are happening, but it's actually their change in rules which has caused less tackle to be made front on.

First they stopped rewarding legs tackles because they felt the attacking team isolated a defender so the attacking team should be rewarded. So teams started to tackle up around the torso for 15+ years now. Now with 6 agains, you're getting way more tackle breaks so more tackles are happening where the defender hits the torso but ends up at the ankle.

Coming back to the momentum discussion, a few years ago, you would see a player make a big tackle to change the momentum of the game, or you would see a guy putting in a lot of kick pressure. These things are not rewarded anymore.

What is rewarded is consistent line speed. That's what Penrith does. When we don't have Api, our line speed is horrible hence we concede tries. But it shouldn't be up to one person. The entire line has to move together at once consistently and relentlessly.

We can't change momentum through guys like Hunt or Afoa or Seyfarth who can give you a couple of good runs. These two losses are entirely on the coaching staff for being ill prepared imo.

Primarily ruck infringements & offside where it is down to how the referee applies the rule & not doing it consistently for both teams. What is and isn't an indiscretion can come down to split seconds which are costing teams.

As a viewer & spectator, it is hard to identify these indiscretions and I hold my breath hoping the cow bell doesn't go off now.

The Fact that week after week Benji leaves Skelton on the sideline and unused and again vs Storm when we had a few backs actually limping means that Benji is not wanting him at all
Can see him being on the move which doesn't make sense while our depth is so weak .He is a beast runs hard ,tackles hard a bit like Taylan
Benji please use him

When you’re missing a third of your run on side…and it’s your best third…a drop in quality is expected.

What shouldn’t be expected, or accepted, is the complete drop in effort, passion and willingness to compete. Losing key players explains mistakes and lack of polish. It does not explain getting flogged every week because blokes aren’t digging in and having a crack.

That’s what I’m annoyed by. When the boys stopped feeling sorry for themselves today and knuckled down, they were arguably the better side….certainly on par. That’s what Benji has to keep working with.
No excuse for that first 14 minutes.

There are a lot of koalas in the NRL,especially if you are an Aust. rep.

Id like to know the real story.
It just seems stupid..stubborn and detrimental to the team
