Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This tax free money will come back and bite the NRL on the arse , the other teams will not be happy in years to come
It will all depend which teams get decimated by this tax free salary cap....if its some of the NRL favorites like Storm and Broncos it will be problematic and if its the more influential teams like Roosters it could cause headaches, however realistically the NRL has probably found away to protect these sides. The only other way it will bite them on the arse is if PNG are top 4 in 2028 and the bears are holding the wooden spoon for a second year in a row.

A lot of assumptions -
Considering Patty has been selling forklifts for a crust the last few years.
Promoting or selling anything is a very solid and honest career. Not every player after retirement can move into media, however some of the best can move into coaching or administration roles.

Pat Richards is one of our best and deserves the chance to prove it.

Totally agree...no one is saying otherwise

Bougainville mine is still closed and Bougainville looking for independence next year?
Agree on the compound life. Some can take it some can't. I counted the days after 3 months to get out. [6 months].
But as I understand, half the time they would be in Australia which would make it a lot easier on their mentality, family and safety. With the tax incentives, I think I could manage the inconvenience for a while.
How would it help there family if half the time there not there and the missus is sitting at home with the kids in a compound. There are many factors to consider moving a family to PNG. personally i wouldnt want to live there been there a few times, although a mil would certainly tempt me.

Benji was a great half, why can't he teach these skills to his halves? It can't be that difficult for 1st grade players.
Because Benji was a "Great ball player".

He could pass, he could kick. A whole stack of the 2005 grand final was him.

He never really was a great organisier. He could do heads up football though, read what was happening.

Honestly if Benji was a car he would be the Citroen of the NRL. Smooth ride, classy turns but who the hell knows where the blinkers are.

Benji could be a reasonable organiser imho but because he had Prince doing that job there was no need for him to do so and also Benji was also far more suited to an adlib style of game where he could dismantle a defence himself.
He also used to throw brilliant passes to people in the grandstand,we were blessed to have him because i don't think there was any possibility we would have won in 2005 without him.
I would classify him more as an E type Jaguar in car terms, brilliant to look at and marvel at the high performance but fairly unreliable as a vehicle to use day to day for a family.

The family, I would assume, live near their base in Australia. Probably in QLD?
Not sure they would fly from Moresby to Australia every 2nd week and fly back the next day?
Access to specialise medical treatment etc.

Hey not sure if this is the right thread but im going out to comm bank stadium for next week's game. Never been to comm bank what area is good to book in. Thanks.
It’s not but I’ll answer anyway. Probably one of the best grounds to watch rugby league at, other than the 8th of course.

Anywhere is good to sit, it’s really designed to be good viewing from any angle you sit at. The sides will obviously be most expensive though. I usually aim for the 10-20m lines when I go

Hope we bring home the W for ya mate

I think we should target Katoa as our half. Western Sydney boy coming home. Currently available for 2028, can discuss Nov 1 this year. And then let Latu, Javon and Douhie fight it out for 5/8. Maybe we need to let Latu go to secure Katoa I.e. put Latu’s $500k towards Katoa. I would be happy to do this even though I am one of Latu’s biggest fans. We need a real first grade half back and Katoa would solve our problem.
There would be implications to this --- samuela...

He's off to Souths when he hits Sydney

You’re definitely not wrong. It’s what Carl Webb died of and he only lasted 12 months.

Yep, I’m giving Sam a pay rise and keeping Latu, but on the same with first grade bonuses. Keep the family together a bit longer and give Latu more time, but if he can’t crack it by the end of the next contract then we will have to test the bros bond.
How can Latu crack it when he is being used as a utility, played out of position mostly? He is a 5/8. Andrews is developing in cup while Latu just gets thrown in. A few weeks ago they wanted him as lock, then he played dummy half he is 20. He should find another club

Benji and Latu have both been pretty open a about the strategy to build up his game fitness. Maybe they think he gets more out of 30 mins per week in NRL vs 80 in cup. At some point that needs to change though - next week might be a sliding doors moment.

Latu and Andrews were great in a badly beaten cup team a few weeks back. I don't see the strategy as playing him anywhere as good for a young half, being used in a utility role doesnt help him develop as a NRL half. He needs to consider his long term NRL career. AD ahead of him, and Madden according to team selections.
