OFFICIAL Terrell May #296

I’m a T May fan,
but the middle in Origin is different… it’s all about leg speed and impact at the same time. - our quick middles are too small and out bigger ones are too slow
QLD breed them… Those Flegler, Matt Scott, types…

Terrell is too cumbersome (even in clubland) he’d look like all the middles the blues trot out that no one is a fan of…
Fonua Blake has leg speed and footwork when he wants - but he’s too lazy for Origin.

Hope they make some changes, or get some blokes back - they’ll get torched if they run that out again.
We’ll be patting ourselves on the back for the next 2 weeks - while qld will be seething at being ripped off
100% correct.
May pumps out strong stats, but he really doesn’t have the mongrel and raw athletic ability to play Origin yet.

Could say the same thing about May I used to say about Woods
- if he’s so good,
why isn’t anyone scared of him?

That’s probably a good word for it - Mongrel…
NSW have blokes that have it - they’re just a touch to small… always!!

May is the is the polar opposite of AFB and the furthest thing from lazy.

AFB - 9 runs, 80metres, 24 tackles
Barnett - 10 runs, 82 metres, 25 tackles

Both played roughly 40 minutes.

What sort of numbers do you think May produces if given the chance? And do you think that extra work will help the players around him be more effective?

NSW need big Props that are hard to bring down and can scrap that extra 2-3metres every tackle. May might not be the fastest, but we get that with Haas. Then you throw in a Brailey sniffing around the ruck and it starts helping the halves find opportunities for the edges

Maybe that will be true but I doubt it.
Personally I think he’ll be another Woodsy at this level. He has too much teddy bear in him. Origin is for thugs ready to street fight.

Him jumping all over Origin after the rule change made me respect Jahrome Hughes more. When the rule change was first announced and AFB put his hand up, Hughes said no. He said you need pride in the jersey, and for him if he played it would just be a money grab.
I agree with you on AFB, his hearts not in it, but I don’t think his hearts really in anything, Footy is just his job.

To be fair though,
- their situations are chalk and cheese.
Fonua Blake spent most of his life and Junior Footy in NSW. The Kiwis got early dibs on him as a kid and swayed him to play a game for them way back,
he probably got shafted a bit there.

Hughes was a kiwi kid that only came to Australia to play footy - has played more than a dozen games for them and the Māori.

Fonua Blake got picked based on discussions they were having about him 3 years ago - not on anything he’s done in the last 18 months.

I don’t think May gets the numbers Fonua Blake did in last nights game, His leg speed is lacking - he’d get swallowed in that environment.
Being able to stand in tackles isn’t as effective in origin, it just isn’t.
Getting the ball away is, but standing there giving the line the chance to reset does nothing.

Need blokes that run hard and run fast - that don’t turn their back (or side) into the defence, that don’t skip before the line to slow momentum…
I don’t even know the blues have them - but qld usually do, in spades.

He doesn’t care about the blue jersey he wears in clubland let alone a NSW one

May in the team last night would have been much better than Barnett , May takes 3 to pull him down and he has the ability to off load and with Strange and Brailey you could get very good metres , May to start then you bring on an impact prop , Hass and May would be good starting props with Blake off the bench , Latrel back in the team in the centre would also add size and punch , critter was not good , only couple good things all game ,

Terrell needs to improve his attacking chops. His offloads are slowly improving, but he needs to be more of a running and offload threat to go to the next level.

I'd like to see him do shorter minutes too. Just because he is brave enough to play long minutes doesn't mean his standard doesn't drop when he's gassed.
Another thing he needs to do is find more aggression, maybe tweak the diet to include game meat, venison etc, bring out more animal in his runs.

With Haas out it was more important to have May in the team, he can punch out 80mins of decent quality if required and therefore it means you have more flexibility in your prop rotation. With Haas back its less critical as he is a big minutes middle, however he would still be handy on the bench.
