Is The Club Respected?

When we're going good we get respect from other clubs fans the media & every Tom dick & Harry but when the old tigers come out to play we get smashed by the media & we become the laughing stock of the nrl
We don't need respect from hypocrites

Yesterday wasn’t just another bad loss. It felt like a reality check about where this club sits in the NRL. And it made me wonder if we have any respect at all?
Answer: we lost 68 - 0 to a very good but perhaps not great Penrith team. (I argue that they have had to shed so many players, they are not the same side that went 4 in a row.)

TLDR: No we are not respected when we perform like that!
Particularly on top of losses to Manly, Storm and Cronulla.
Then there’s Terrell May comments this week. He openly said his loyalty isn’t to Wests Tigers, it’s to Benji Marshall. As long as Benji is there, he’s there. I suppose on one hand, you can appreciate the honesty. However, it seems his relationship with the club actually paying him is dependent on the choice of coach he gets along with. And the worst part, I don’t think he’s an isolated case amongst the playing group. I think most think that way. And the fact the club feels they need to sign their siblings to keep them happy tells me the club has no spine. To me, respected clubs create loyalty to the jersey and the organisation. Players come and go, coaches come and go, but the club remains bigger than any one person. For a while. it feels like we have relied on personal relationships rather than institutional strength. If you’re going to play finals and win premierships that way, hey, whatever works. But we are perennial failures, and this strategy of creating a brotherhood, while it may be good for team morale and creating bonds that go beyond footy. It’s not something that’s going to get you to the promised land all by itself. And it seems to be what Benji has gone all in on, because he doesn’t bring much else to the table as a first grade coach.
That's the problem isn't it?

Benji is bringing players in, Great!
Heck he can keep our talent signed? Excellent...
But can Benji actually coach?

It's that last point that matters. I don't think Benji can bring the same passion or drive to another organisation. He would make an awesome halves coach or specialist that came in just before a grand final...

Just can he do the head coach job? and can he do it better then Ivan Cleary, Bellamy, Bennett, Madge, Payten and the rest of the coaches?

Plus can he do it HERE? One of the biggest issues with the WT is Training and development.
We are not hardening players, players are dropping once they come here. We seem to have a "super hard pre-season" then we see a massive drop in performance.

Our culture and training is missing a key ingredient. Benji in his wisdom has doubled down and hired all ex tigers. So we cannot change our culture... We need change and our board has rehired Benji for 5 years ARRGH.

The club started setting new standards in december of 2025. The board was sacked and forced the best CEO in the clubs history out the door. The club then signed a rookie coach to a 5 year term - unheard of in the nrl. The clubs marquee signing is leaving 3 years into a 5 year contract. Now we have tier 1 signings saying they have no loyalty to the club, just the rookie coach.

And yesterday, the club showed us what their standards really mean... not only did fans who turned up to commbank not get to see KOE and Flegg play (who were at lidcome oval at the same time), they had their hearts and souls stripped from them in an absolutely pathetic showing where the nrl side lost 68-0.

New standards? Haha ok. 4 players (twal, samuela, douhei and may) are not the reason we lost 68-0. The club is weak, have been for a long time. The few wins we had decieved us into a false sense of reality.

Same shit, different year.

Its a strange coincidence that two of the worst losses in nrl history involve this club and have happened within 3 years, dont you think?

This is an exaggeration

We had 4-5 players out
That is 40% of the starting 13. Significant enough...

Add 36% possession, 5 six agains late in the count. 4 penalties to 1 all game against a full strength Panthers team and you can see why the score blew out.

We were totally gassed all game. Is 40 to 12 any different to 68 nil in the modern game? Outclassed for sure...we had many out, but the way we got murdered by the new rules added the extras.

We would have taken 6 wins with 12 games remaining before a ball was kicked this season, so I'll wait until we have our troops back before slagging the team.

I doubt we make the 8 this year, but we give ourselves a shot if we can manage 50% win rate from here.

With regards to TDM, I think you need to put yourself in his shoes. If you were treated the way he was treated at the roosters, you'd only show loyalty to the coach too. I think his honesty is refreshing, it's better then them saying shit and not meaning it.

No team has made the finals after a 68-0 whitewash.

That is a really telling statistic mtd. Breaking records for all the wrong reasons since 2000.

It’s as though the gravity of a loss like that doesn’t have any impact on them, they treat it just like another loss. And it almost seems like they go into matches with the comfort that they can lose because they have an excuse with missing players. Then their expectations are met during the game when the opposition take ascendancy and they just roll with it and allow it to become a blowout. Because it doesn’t matter to them, it’s just a loss. That’s all I can glean from them allowing something like that to happen.
Heads in the sand...truth hurts

A lot of Aussies, even some of the media, like to root for underdogs, so they enjoy it when the Tigers are going well. Unfortunately, the Tigers make it very hard to root for them when they lack mental toughness and capitulate in a way that few other teams do. That leads to utter contempt from the less charitable.

I just realised something really bad.

How do we tell if we have a troll on our forum?
Simple they are more optimistic then the actual fans!

(not calling you a troll MTD#2 not at all. All your points above are valid, well said and I agree with you).

As to these 4:
Samuela + Twal is a fair amount of Beef. I get us loosing to Penrith but we still had most of our prop rotation.
AD has been fairly solid this season. However he is usually flakey. We should not be relying on him.
Taylan May, we should 100% not be relying on him.

...
One thing stands out. We put Skelton + Turuva on the same side. Skelton is an experienced NRL winger and probably one of the better wing defenders we have. We put our two rookies Makasini and Tino Tavana together! Why?

Plus the whole starting Charlie Murray + Mavrik Geyer ahead of Seyfarth and Hunt. We needed beef and we put up rookies.

We don't respect the opposition and got walked on.

I think those days are long gone in the social media era … the weak teams in any sport get piled on and ridiculed

The Dogs beat them. Yes, we had a few out, but are those outs significant enough for Penrith to rack up a record breaking score? Even by their standards?
What are the chances yesterdays Penrith side plays Penrith’s reserve grade side and wins 68-0

I would think slim at best

Benji said after the game that it looked like they weren’t trying. There is possibly some truth in that?
The only game they’ve been up for since the round 8 win against Raiders is the dogs. They must have been strongly motivated for that game?
Would love to know what demotivated the team? Has there been more board room calamity?
