OFFICIAL Jake Averillo #?

Toa was a joy to watch at times and others a nightmare. He was pretty versatile as well but Averillo is a playmaker hands down. Both good players but Toa not as consistent. Somewhat of a sideways move but better than backwards
Toa takes a month of footy to find form, and when he does, its not really that much.

The game against the Sharks, that was damn awful, that's not a professional footy player.

We need tradie centres. Shane Elfords... Blake Ayshfords, Dean Collises. Guys who can stay fit and just do the damn job.

Patrick Herbert is ok for now. I love that he literally goes out there to hurt people

Hopefully Jake is a bit more than that. Maybe Tim Simona class.

Some on here are questioning his rising pay over the next four years. However, the TV rights value and the salary cap will rise accordingly.

What I'd love to see is incentive bonuses instead, just like in the NFL. More metres, more line breaks, more offloads and more tries should equal more money.
Problem is you would get selfish players manipulating the play to get pay rises.

It's not going to be $800k. You're dead set creating a narrative to suit yourself. And no I was never happy with MBye or Reynolds signing. They were on much more a year than Averillo will be next season at a time when the cap was only 65% of what it will be next season.

And they were were pretty ordinary players IMO before they arrived. I was disappointed in those signings

This is very very different
It’s average $700k per year and we don’t know if that doesn’t then include ratchets which it might

$700k for a center who can’t make his own teams starting side anymore

If you’re happy with that fine

I’m not

If the dragons announced they signed Jake averillo for 4 years at $700k I’d laugh

Difficult to administer in a salary cap environment. Not knowing what the actual cost per player per year will be

The NRL has a very weird club administration system. The Broncos are ASX listed, Souths and the Sea Eagles are privately owned, the Titans are owned by the NRL, and the rest are owned by leagues clubs.

The difference with the NFL, NBA, MLB and EPL is that their clubs are privately owned and treated as the primary business. When a leagues club runs an NRL club, its primary interest is getting bums on seats in the pokie room, which can account for anywhere between 60% and 90% of its revenue, depending on the club.

Some clubs reinvest in the team, while others run a debenture system that rips off members.

spoken like a true tigers fan -- who said the same thing when we signed all the other duds on long term deals for more money.

Listen Ive got no problem with Jake if it was for 3 years at $550K.$600K

Its the four years that escalates to $800K.

That's my problem.

And if anyone says why whinge?

Are these the same fans that whinge when they back a new signing (like 99% of people do -- because "It's different this time.") and then when they turn into duds -- blame the player or coach or admin for singing them to long term deals lol.

Taylan, KPP, Bula, etc -- good deals.

Jake - dud deal.

I'm allowed to have a negative opinion if i think its a dud deal for the club.
It’s def good money but he offers more than just filling a hole at centre. Apparently he can play anywhere in the backline as well as being lightning fast.

May was a great deal but he was and still is a huge risk. Could have easily been another Reynolds like signing. Bula is still operating on potential and has been paid huge money for that.

In this diluted player market, you just have to lock down first graders. Yes he can’t crack a hot dolphins side who will challenge for top 4.

Riccio reported $550k

Time and time again it has been proven if a reporter says its 800k its closer to 600k. If they say 750k its closer to 550-600k. Yet guys like you continue to believe whats reported and take it as gospel and go in in the club when its wrong. Just like the continued carry on about Latu being on 500k for 4 years when that isnt even close to correct.

Stop believing the numbers reported in the media, they are made up and designed to generate talk and clicks.

Says who?

They reported KPP initially at $700k a year too

Also .., this is the first week he hasn’t been selected when fit .., might be giving him a chance to get some much fitness after a long layoff in reserves

I know you love putting the slipper into the club … but at least be honest about it

ppl commenting that he cant crack the dolphins, the guy was a regular until he badly dislocated 2 fingers in his hand and needed surgery to fix it. In the meantime Bostock played center and absolutely smashed it and earned himself an origin call up. So who do you drop to bring Jake back in? Upside for Phins is once they do have a backline injury they have a player of Jake's caliber to step in to almost any position and secondly the injury is not one that is chronic or recurring like a soft tissue type injury so we are not buying a potentially busted player.

Like I said to old mate .. it’s his first week this week being available for selection ..,

People want to make out he has been stuck playing reserve grade all year

I'm not sure if that's possible, as it's a team sport. Players who tried that would be ostracised and called out.

It would be in every player's best interest to play for the team while still hitting their own personal goals for wins and bonuses.
It’s in their best interest to play their best for the team regardless.

Unfortunately unintended consequences can’t be avoided. For example, I personally like the idea of a system where getting paid bonuses for a win vs a loss : would make lazy players perform at a higher level but then it would be even harder for lesser teams to recruit.
