Josh Schuster #

Hope im wrong for Schusters sake ,think he's just walked into his last chance saloon . He was on a softly as you go contract at Souths this year and didn't really move the dial over there, will having a few close mates about change much for him here?

It will be his last chance and it’s up to him, to be fair he looks to be fitter than be ever has.

As to his mental state he lost a close mate, he was thrusted into elite prospect status, given enormous amounts of cash, on the media nearly every week being hammered. Most kids will break or have massive impacts to them.

Taking a step right away and removing all the pressure I think is awesome for him. If he doesn’t make an impact at least he can close the chapter himself, if he does then we get a gamebreaker on our hands.

possible no 13 if all the elements co-incide...but am becoming increasingly concerned by Benji tbh
Chasing guys like Falua at 37..Schuster who better coaches havent fixed...hmm
Am no fan of letting LL go early btw...hes our 2nd best winger, albeit with deficiencies....and Skelton ou 3rd best

Yet we persevere with Makasini.who may be an immortal one day.but rite now is a liability

The kid lost 33kg in 12 months - to me, that shows he's dedicated and was prepared to take responsibility in delivering himself to a club in reasonable shape as a first step. It shows initiative and maturity. A positive sign more than negative.

Good on him for having a proper crack.
People comparing him to Miller . I mean please ! Spare me ! The kid had barely made it out of eg ball got a go in firsts and started swinging his old fella around in KOE cup when he got back there . That alone would be enough o get rid of him . Then chuck in his refusal to train and do the hard stuff. It’s not even the same thing.
For most blokes on this earth , nearly all of us have to drive a car off a cliff for us to realise how much we liked the bloody thing . My super power is being able to get what I need from my screw ups. As I’ve had more than enough of them .
I’m not counting any chickens here , but there’s every chance much like the May boys , former problem child’s like Walker at souths , that he may have had it all click for him . And hopefully we will be there on the ground floor building him back up .

Some players just need some belief behind em.

Benji strikes me as a guy that really backs his players. Could be a serious duo if all things fall into place.

Hopefully he's not another Galvin like attitude who is fully against playing somewhere other than the halves.
Doesn’t wanna play back row, has slimmed down to play in the halves (but we have plenty)

What about centre boss…
Mobile enough at 120kgs, have to be better at sub 100 you’d reckon.

Size, pace and hands out there…

😂😂😂
Millers no Godinet then?

Bennett saw something in Schuster but wasn't able to extract it. I’m sure Benji would have spoken to WB before going ahead, maybe B said you’re younger with an island heritage, better fit ?
Plus the financials are attractive but I would say Benji has told him what’s expected and if he finally gets to work could be a dark horse on the bench later in the year.
Next year he’s got a while pre season to show if hes got a starting spot in him.
5/8 still up for grabs coz I think Averillo is a better centre and God knows we need some of those.

Agree there, but also, the kid didn't hurt anyone or get arrested for anything. He was upfront with Souths and walked away when he could have kept taking the money. He didn't dog anyone even though he was in a rough place.

On another note, Benji has pulling power with the players though...that's a huge positive for us because you get opportunities like this. Overall, the players we are actually getting to sign for our club is quite incredible.

Big respect for Benji.

We've got our starting centres sorted.
#14 maybe?

I still think the halves are not clear for 28.

Right now Doueihi has the 7.

As it stands, Latu has not shown anything in first grade to say he should be a walk up start at 6/7. Granted, his development has been stuttered through injury and being moved around a lot.

18 months is a long time....at the end of 2024, people were saying Doueihi was a centre or lock and Twal should go.

The cream rises to the top and they end up pick themselves anyway. Really interested to see how this plays out at the finish.

Schuster to the centres makes more sense than anywhere else to start as he gets some reps in.

Maybe edge backrow

Couldn't handle the defence at 13 in the middle and isn't hard nosed enough

We are stacked at 6 and I'd rather invest in Fainu and Andrews and we have Doubbie

I don’t think he’s getting anywhere near nrl halves , as long as we keep our first choice … except as a fill in for injuries etc.
I think his desire to play 6 … in a competitive nrl team simply isn’t going to happen . Maybe for a team like the bears or the South Island nz team when they come in … or even SL. But not any nrl team trying to get to the summit. So to this I think he may need to knuckle down as a strike weapon edge backrower .
He’s an absolute weapon when he was motivated on the edge . One thing I will say , is , yes he’s lost plenty of weight but he’s a lot smaller as in muscle mass .
But really I just hope the kid gets in amongst the boys and he fits in . I genuinely think the culture the club has seems to be perfect for young islander guys .
Not many guys have come tot he club and said they don’t like the joint . Which is a far contrast to say 5 years ago .

Same.

Could be interesting.

Yep . Just like you’re no good As a bloke . . It is what it is …
What happened to all you empathy for young blokes a couple hours back tough guy?
So we’re allowed to have a negative opinion on the way a young blokes carries himself - as long as it’s the same young blokes you don’t rate?
You’ve aways been full of piss and wind,
Now put some batteries back in the flashlight and sod off back under your blanket.
