LIVE GAME Round 18 versus Dragons

HBG need to hire some consultants to diagnose what’s wrong at the club
Hasn’t that been done previously ?
If you look for root causes you would go in order.
1. Board ( I’m not sure there’s anything more that can be done)
2 Management ( we’re in the verge of confirming our existing CEO) who must stamp himself on the role and the group by laying down the law. Must not be another Benji bro !
3. Coaching staff ( we took a punt on Benji and re - signed him on extension despite his obvious shortcomings). He’s surrounded himself with players and ex teammates ( bros) who all “ adore him” so possible recruitment issues if he is let go.
4. Players who, started the year positively but with injuries, suspensions seem to have just lost all momentum. We seem to be active recruiting and cleaning house but after watching the last 2 weeks it makes you wonder. We seem to favour brawn over brains ! How is the pathways program actually going ?
5. Overall imo it all comes back to coach and players and whether we are making best use of the players we’ve got eg young Makasini is hurt and being pummelled every week but there’s not thought of letting him ease in via the 2s. Latu being totally ignored except trialing him at hooker when he’s clearly not.
And of course, whoever is devising our attacking strategy is hopeless , we can’t even play spontaneous football anymore in our haste to get to a ( usually) ineffective kick.
If you were brought in to oversee it all where would you start ?
Pillars are-
Recruitment, good players win matches so must look very closely for the most appropriate available.( leaders with no bias)
Pathways, is this being effectively utilised
Coaching - must be a total review of the whole coaching system. ( Are we sure Ivan wouldn’t like another opportunity?).
I’d be having a heart to heart with him if I were the CEO. Back to basics mentality, let’s practice doing the little things right and build from there, have alternatives.

I know I’m rambling and have probably missed other key issues but I’m as frustrated and disappointed as everyone else on here.
But I do know that things can be corrected if everyone is pulling in the same direction and committed to a common cause. That just doesn’t look like us at the moment !

And so much of this seems to be after Luais PNG trip and signing. Seems to have unsettled the whole joint !

Absolutely it contributed significantly to derailing our season. They are human after all, and when your leader wants out 2 years early it changes mindset. No matter how much you try to get on with it, and convince yourself its all good, it simply isnt good. The captain, the leader, wants out. At the very least Luai needs to be stripped of the captaincy.

Yes it has been done, and that was part of my joke.
We clearly have a long way to go as a club and I don’t feel confident at all without Richo being on board.

Shaun might turn out great as a CEO, but our club stinks at the highest level and that non sense gets passed down. It affects the culture, recruitment and so much more.

I don’t believe we will ever be successful again under HBG.

Well we’ve got a team full of glass hearts and when our captain tells everyone he’s a Tiger for life then decides to leave mid contract they all start to crack.

I suppose to his credit Luai realised after a couple of good floggings that this team has no heart so decided to get as much money as he could.

Having said that, someone on $1.2M and having a decent game once a month is not good footy business

If it was incompetence.., we should benefit just as often as we lose out

If it’s deliberate,,, I find it hard to believe there is some conspiracy against us..besides ,we can’t even make the Top 8 let alone challenge for a premiership.,, every other team can make it ..
I've come to believe that they come for the easy money. Fill thier pockets for a long as they can. That's why generally players improve when they move away to other clubs as they can't get away with it.
I believe it comes from HO down to the coaches so the players don't give a stuff.

Nothing will be done until someone comes out and should the beans. I believe that's why Robbie and Mag were pushed out.

TDS has been absolutely terrible this year. One good play for like 3 brain fades.
Doesn’t matter what he has done over there.
I showed everyone last year that the combination of Api and TDS was a very tough and competitive combination. They strongly complimented each others games and the team responded to the different styles when each was on the field.
Api is no good when he goes 80. That has been a fact for many years. We lose far too much when his replacements are on the field….all except Tallyn.
Letting him go was a massive stuff up.

Weird Luai Instagram story with a 🤐 + a song titled "I told them".

Not sure if it's targeted at everyone who wanted AD/Jock combo when he returned.
Timing is weird, after losing to the team coming last.
Doesn't really instil us with confidence as fans if he's sending secretive messages via socials

Bula drives me nuts. Slinking around the field like a rat tbh. Never busts the line, never pops up in attack. Not actually sure what he even does.
Yeah he was peeing me.off too last nite...looked.like he didnt want to be there...pretty half hearted....ive supported him from day dot but fast running out of patience with him.
When was his last line break? Never seems tonget thru even when up against forwards out wide

I feel we need better assist coaches.

Same garbage year in year.
look at Bennet he is a good man manager, benji likes to think he isa good man manager.
Bennett has always had good assistants with him
Benji needs to surround himself with good assistant coaches, work out game plans x's and O's
Like Hodgo as a player but a dud coach
Heighnington the less said the better
Morris he has some ability did well at sharks but perhaps he needs to go too

He might need to be made to change the assistants ..

For all the talk of standards absolutely nothing has changed.

They are mentally soft and weak, they have zero footy IQ and cannot organise, implement and execute the most basic attacking or defensive structures.

They have all played the game since the age of 5 or there abouts but show zero game or situational awareness.

There is zero accountability from the board, to the coaching staff to the players. The whole club is one giant festering boil full of puss.

Benji saying it's on him isn't accountability, it's the soft option and gives cover for the players to take zero accountability.

Benji's team selections and not selections are becoming more bizarre every week. There is zero evidence of any game plan, offensive or defensive structures and game tactics. The use of the bench gets equally bizarre each week and shows a complete lack of situational game awareness and tactics.

The club is an absolute rabble......

I agree
not many troops coming in
sam F, KPP, Averillo

it seems to be a coaching problem, how could we not be up for that game

Yes .the coach and the depth of the squad are big factors over the course of the season …but the last 2 games is mostly on the players in my view ….both games were there to be won with more disciplined play and effort ..
