It's time to take the fight back to HBG

You could amass a lot of pressure and have the NRL consider not renewing the license to HBG. HBG may not necessarily have to agree to anything in the end.

The problem is our fans are apathetic in general...your statement is a testament to that, GNR's general demeanour is a testament to that. There are many more so not picking on individuals. More the mentality that exists...happy to piss and moan, but not willing to do anything about it. You went to the march at Lidcombe...why go if you think things will change on the "twelfth of never" yet piddle your pants about signings...the issue is at the top. Always has been and always will be.

While Souths fans marched the streets, our fans meekly accepted what the ARL said. Both Wests and Balmain fans just accepted it. Never put up a fight at all.

What Souths fans did was difficult and it came with the risk of losing their team altogether. They could have said...will never happen. They could have said let's take the money and continue as a merged club...like many fans of other clubs did...but the immense pressure thousands of fans can create is bad optics for the NRL if it carries on for long enough.

Every merged club in the NRL has failed. Ours is hanging on by a thread. Our biggest problem is we can't even vote on our board members because of this debenture system. It's a scam...in no other industry would this be accepted and we shouldn't accept it either.
I don't know if they are apathetic, we got a decent turnout to the rally that was not really a rally and in truth it was probably only an attractive proposition to half our supporter base and then only really those that could easily attend to protest against what was a bit of an abstract and almost faceless target. I would say that if we had a clear threat or a decision made to kick the team out of the NRL you would see supporters come out of the woodwork to rival the South's mob.

Yeh, success on the field isn't something NRL cares about.

They care that we get decent enough crowds, we have good exposure, we do good marketing, we are in the news, we get sponsorships etc.

The bigger the brand value the better for them and we aren't short on that right now.

Having guys like JL, Benji, Bula etc helps. That's why they want every club to spend the entire cap.

Haha 2 clubs did get kicked out. Not one supporter turned out.

Now?...who knows, but if 500 people at Lidcombe is considered a good turnout, then we'll never get anywhere.

That Rob Beschara bloke said on the poddy last night that there were HBG board members who still wanted Mestrov as CEO over Shaun.

There has to be a way to get rid of them.. the debenture system only protects so much.. there has to be another way.

I doubt it mate … the anger was pretty high in the lead up to that protest ..: they probably got about 700 people there … I mean everyone knew who the target was

He also said a few weeks back that Mestrov was going to be appointed over Shaun ( apparently was the reason he hadn’t already been upgraded to the role ) ..:it wouldn’t have happened if they didn’t agree …he hears rumours … doesn’t mean they are true

Doesn't mean they aren't either..
Where there is smoke there is fire

There has been one constant during our decade and a bit of mediocrity, and that is the HBG. Coaches and players have come and gone but the HBG has been the people making the big calls and have failed miserably.

You can’t run a NRL club on a shoe string budget and expect success. It might of happened fifty years ago but not now. Of course they are not going to give the franchise away so I guess nothing much is going to change

People have posted the financial input from keagues clubs to nrl teams, and Wests Tigers is the lowest by a huge amount.

I went back and listened to Richo's actual quote about funding from HBG:

"... at no stage have they rejected anything. In fact, they've constantly asked, is it enough? Can we give you more?"

HBG have probably made a few mistakes but underfunding the club does not sound like one of them.

I have no idea if this situation is actually true or not… the club seems to do without a lot compared to some of their biggest rivals …
Sometimes people say positive things publicly that may not be true … Particularly people paying them a million dollars a year ..

I have plenty of Tigers supporters in my family and friends, I can assure you that many, especially under 40yrs old, had no idea about what was going on or who HBG are and why do we care.

Fair enough but It would be hard to say otherwise given he was employed by them at the time.

I haven't seen the numbers but it sounds right. The Tigers make around 13M which is the lowest in the comp but is that money given to them by benefactors?

AI says Brisbane holds a virtual corporate monopoly in a one-team city, they generate almost four times the commercial and sponsorship revenue ($48.9m) that HBG manages to secure or provide for the Tigers ($13.4m). Bulldogs are around $20m

It makes ahuge difference.

Apart from player wages, an NRL coach has 20 assistants, this requires resources, money. Where do other NRL clubs get the money from?

Does the Tigers have this many, and quality ones?

If you're a player and have the option to play at a club with more off field support and resources, where would you choose?

HBG please give the club more money
