Adam Doueihi #227

Make him Captain next week - anyone who stands up and says this crap isnt good enough and takes a stand should be congratulated.

Plenty of blokes went out today and didnt try, he had the balls to say im not up for this today and not play , the others took the soft option of pretending they were - Laui, May, Turuva most of all
That puts another view on what’s happening, because that looks like a shortlist of players who threatened to quit if Benji got sacked.
Either way, the buck stops squarely in the hands of the 20 Magpies, the steering committee driving us up another culdesac.

There are several of them on the new “ independent” Wests Tigers board also including the one who was the driving force behind the KOE side being called Magpies

Billy Slater has slammed the Wests Tigers “debacle” after the side’s 56-10 loss to the Raiders on Saturday, saying players at the club need to stop playing with an “individual mindset” as their slim finals hopes fade away.

The drama surrounding Adam Doueihi has added to the unrest at the club, his choice to make himself unavailable for selection causing uproar from experts.

“I think the performance and the result on the weekend reflects where the club’s at,” the Maroons coach said on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.

“I think Benji’s probably looking after his player there a little bit. I think you’ve got a duty to play. If you wait until you feel exactly right and in the right headspace and you feel your body’s always right, you’ll never play the game.

“You’ve got a duty to play. I totally understand where Adam Doueihi’s coming from and feeling disappointed about moving positions, but when you’re a part of a team, you’ve gotta have a selfless mindset.

“And there’s too many individual mindsets at the moment at the Tigers.”

After it was reported that the playmaker was unhappy with being shifted to play at lock, Benji Marshall stood behind his player, saying he still had hope his team will turn their season around, something Andrew Johns found “ridiculous”.

“I just find it absolutely ridiculous. We’ve all played at a time in clubs where things weren’t happy and you were busted, you were sore and you were flat,” Johns said.

“You get out there and play. It just seems like every couple of years, there’s some sort of drama like this at the Wests Tigers.

“I don’t know whether it’s the senior players or it’s people high up at the club or it’s a collection of everything, but what we’ve seen is nothing short of a debacle.”

The club had refused to comment on the matter in the build-up to their 46-point thrashing; however, Marshall told reporters post-match that he was confident the club would come to a resolution with their disgruntled star soon.

Marshall expects that Doueihi’s management will attend their crisis meeting on Monday along with the club’s chief executive Shaun Mielekamp.

While Doueihi has been heavily criticised for his choice, Marshall made clear that he fully understands and respects the thought process of his playmaker.

“As a coach, I always try and make decisions on what I think is best for the team to try and win,” Marshall said in his post-match press conference.

“For Adam, I can understand his disappointment with me asking him to play a different role. I will always try to make the best decision for the club - it’s my job.

“But at the same time, Adam is a human, and he feels how he feels. We are in the world where if you don’t feel mentally right to play, you can’t make them play.

“He wasn’t in a good headspace to play this week. You have to respect that, which we did. We will try and get to a resolution next week and put the talk to bed.”

Marshall dismissed reports other players had approached him disgruntled about the situation, admitting he only had his talent come to him asking for clarification on what was unfolding with Doueihi.

He then recognised that the past two years have been tough for all fans, players, coaches and club staffers due to on-field woes and off-field battles.

But Marshall has not lost his love of the game or his passion for the job.

“I love my job and I love doing it. I love the impact of trying to turn this club around,” he continued.

“We’ve had a shitload of noise over the last two years. We are trying (to turn things around), but what we are doing at the moment isn’t working.

“This is the toughest thing I’ve been through. I am a human too, I have feelings. I have kids who feel it, they go to school, and it gets talked about.

“It is a stressful job - it comes with the territory. We just have to keep fighting, stick together and push through it.”

Steve Roach and Josh Morris admitted pre-game on 2GB’s Continous Call Team that if the Tigers were to be demolished by the Raiders, Marshall could find that his playing group could turn their backs on Doueihi.

“I don’t see how he walks in there on Monday and it being all chummy,” Morris said.

“If they have a loss and get flogged, they will all turn their backs on him and say ‘we don’t want you here’. You weren’t there for us when we needed you. Are you only going to be there when it suits you or are you going to be here when we are in trouble?”

Roach agreed, adding: “I don’t know what happened in the dressing room with him and Benji, but you can’t let your teammates down.”

Marshall was not worried when asked if that could be the case post-match.

“I can’t answer for them, but the most important thing is that this is their job,” he replied, recognising that statement also applies to Doueihi.

“They have to go out there and do their job. Whether you respect it or not, you have to.”

Morris questioned the professionalism of Doueihi, given former coach Brett Kimmorley revealed this is not the first time the playmaker has pulled this stunt.

“It is going to make it so hard for him to come back (if they lose),” Morris said.

“If you want to be on a successful team and be the player people want to be - he is a senior player. You might not like it but you have to get on with it.

“You have to be professional about it, get out there and perform, no matter what number is on your back.”

If you are in cup and AD is lining up with you next week how do you think those guys feel? They are busting a gut to make first grade to try and chase their dream yet the guy next to them CBF last week. Be interesting.

AD wont be playing Cup next week...it will be NRL with WTs or another team
He CANNOT play for another team next week, the transfer deadline was over 3 weeks ago and even if the rules were waived so he could what club do you honestly believe would allow him to play for them ahead of players who have been at the club all season. He is not talented enough for that and he is a cancer at the moment for any club to try to rehabilitate.

CEO and Coach are both weak, rather be mates with the players.

I don't expect he will be sacked even though he should be. At worst I expect he is in cup next week but would not be surprised to see him welcomed straight back into the starting side at half by Benji and Shaun .....

I would personally name him at 13

Andrews at 6
Jock at 7

Luai delayed concussion needs 6 weeks off for medical test clear out his locker and send him off no more stink around the club

And if AD doesn't turn up to play 13 he's off with to Ron Massey Cup to play in the halves or bench there

The cancer is LUAI!!!
Triggered our collapse, destabilising the team and easing his foot off the gas pedal with stupid irresponsible cheap plays ..and acting as defacto agent for PNG propped up by $3 mill 3rd party deals with another club
Shlsd have been cut months ago
Benji is too stoopid to see that this trojan horse is gonna bring him down too
Coach has no smarts whatsover...doing a better job than HBG of killing this club

Benji Marshall’s contract gives him more power than almost any other coach in the NRL, but that is about to be challenged as the Wests Tigers realise he can no longer be surrounded by “yes men” after a tumultuous week for the club that could result in the loss of another quality half.

Regular halfback Adam Doueihi stood up to Marshall on Thursday, calling him out on issues at the club and standing down from Saturday’s clash against the Raiders after Marshall had moved him to lock – a stance for which Doueihi was called selfish in the meeting.

Doueihi’s agent, Isaac Moses, has now organised peace talks between Marshall and Doueihi with a view to keeping his client at the club. Moses only found out about the fallout between coach and player after the event – and while he backs his player’s opinions, he has made it clear to Doueihi that he felt he should have played.

Moses will put his own issues with Marshall to one side to find a solution. The aim is to bring the pair together so Doueihi can play in the Tigers’ next game, against Parramatta next Sunday.

The “selfish” accusation is hard to argue with, but Doueihi’s behaviour this year suggests he is anything but. For Doueihi, the positional change was a culmination of issues that had been irking him before he made his snap decision.

The most obvious is that star five-eighth Jarome Luai is leaving the club for the Eels next season, then the PNG Chiefs in 2028, and the idea of Doueihi mentoring and combining with rookie half Javon Andrews has been discussed.

Doueihi’s selection at lock didn’t lend itself to that. So no matter how you spin it, Luai’s exit is having an impact on the club.

Doueihi has busted his backside to support Marshall and create a team culture. From putting on team meals to being the one who brought the players together for coffees. He paid for his own flight to support the team at Magic Round when he was out injured. He is also currently playing through a shoulder injury.

Doueihi should have sensed something was up with his selection going into the Raiders game when Marshall showed little interest in his judiciary appearance on Tuesday night. He didn’t get a phone call from his coach after beating a careless high tackle charge.

The initial thought is that the situation is not beyond repair, but the Tigers have lost two marquee halves in Lachlan Galvin and Luai in the last 13 months.

Lachie Galvin had his issues with Marshall during his time at the Tigers.

Galvin had a dossier of complaints about Marshall – the contents of which have been hidden away. Luai was told to move on after signing with PNG to accommodate the next wave of talent.

So the Tigers are facing the loss of three top halves at a time when playmakers have never been more in demand.

It can also be revealed that Marshall’s agent, Matt Desira, not only brokered a great deal for his client, but timed it to perfection. The contract was struck when the club was in the midst of a boardroom crisis and effectively hands all power over the team to Marshall.

Adam Doueihi and the Tigers come to terms with another loss in a season that has spiralled out of control.

The inside story of why Adam Doueihi refused to play for Wests Tigers

The coach, a 2005 premiership winner and club legend, has the final say over everything at the club, from his assistant coach down to the gear stewards. And if he is sacked or asked to accept changes to his deal, he is entitled to be paid out in full.

The latest drama could actually be the making of Marshall as a coach as it is going to bring change.

Marshall was untouchable as a player, on and off the field. His status as a generational great meant any shortcomings were glossed over. But being a champion player doesn’t automatically translate into being a great head coach and leader of men.

There is a growing feeling at the Tigers that Marshall needs outside help. One of his biggest issues is that he doesn’t have enough people challenging him. There is already discussion that one of his main men, John Morris, is heading to the Dragons. That has been denied. But Marshall will be offered assistance in the off season.

The club could do worse than consider if Shane Flanagan would join as a senior assistant. It’s something Flanagan is open to. Whether Marshall would accept it is another thing. He has the legal right to tell the club to shove it.

The view that there have been double standards at the club has also been relayed to me. Some players are allowed to get out of training with too much ease, while bad habits like vaping have been ignored.
And there you have it, folks - it's all due to Vaping - as Billy Field once sang - "Can't help myself ... Bad Habits - I'm running wild, lose control!"
Gawd, how does the BS media get away with this tripe? No names and no named sources.

Keep scapegoating those who have achieved success elsewhere while no one has achieved it at WTs and expect to remain where we are - the joke of the NRL
No individual is at fault for our predicament but there have been a ton of victims.
Well...Benji hasnt achieved success anywhere in his current capacity as coach...a brace of wooden spoons and a 13th..and probably worse this year with a better roster
For him ,loyalty meant parading around in an Auckland Blues jersey in 2015 whilst still contracted to WTs
So can understand why he just doesnt get the term
Luai has completely sold Benji out..and quite legally entitled to do that btw ...but Benjis response is to sell out his best player for this disloyal turncoat who is clearly going thru the motions
Our coach's "management skills" are limited to paying his buddies ridiculous premiums for their "loyalty"..but not to the club.....but to Benji!
!WTF!!
Are there any leadership skills out there anywhere in this club??
Id bring in Chieka in a heartbeat..a no nonsense man manager that doesnt support parental leave for million $$ players
Time to bring this whole mess to a head
Somebody in charge wake up..

We are talking about success at WTs.. not the success of coaches - no coaches have achieved success here since Benji was a player. Nor is there a capacity to attract coaches after the failure of two premiership winning coaches to make difference.
Why don't you focus on that!

I repeat keep bagging individuals that have achieved success elsewhere without addressing the rot of this club - that no one can succeed at - and expect more of the same.
