Coach Benji đź‘‘

Respected the process and his learning on the job but evidence is evidence this guy is not a very good coach.

Unfortunately we need to move him into another role or move him on all together.
I used to like the idea of Benji coaching because of the players that he might attract to the club. The problem is, he's not getting anything out of the players anyway so whats the point. Every player is slowly getting worse under Benji.

I think the board should pull Benji in and ask a few std questions and also give him some direction as to what they expect going forward .
Questions from the board .
What is your plan for the rest of the season .
Are you blooding the young guys for the rest of the season .
Have you thought about your assistant coaches for next year .
Do you want some outside assistance like Cronk or Johns .
Board requests
Assistant coaches next year we would like you to find and replace Hodgo and Heighno , if this is done you are safe for the season 2027
If you decide to run with your mates you have 10 games next year and you need to be 6 wins out of 10 or we move you on at that point end week 10 .
Are there players under contract you don’t want , if so give us the names and Gallant will get them moved on .
Board no longer can sit back and watch our team flip flop again
Todays team will be a real indication of Benji and his staff.

Some stats to back Marshall’s call on AD

Adam Doueihi since returning
Games - 5
Team total points - 45 (average 9pg)
Team total tries - 8
AD tries - 3
AD try assists - 2
AD try involvements - 5
W/L - 0-5

Jake Connor (Leeds Rhinos) same period
Games - 5
Team total points - 200 (40pg)
Team total tries - 35
JC tries - 3
JC try assists - 14
JC try involvements - 17
W/L - 4-1

Our assistant coach Hodgson has a relationship with Jake.

The problem is HBG have effectively handed all control of football operations to Benji. The club is now solely reliant upon Benji to make a rational, mature decision…..

As much as I would love an up and coming assistant to join the club, there’s zero inventive for them to do so. Who’d honestly want to come here?

We’ll be forced to look at guys that don’t have the fanfare or try and find a diamond in the rough. That’s in the event Benji changes his assistants which he most likely won’t.
HBG have loads of pokie money , they can p7nt him pay him out and move on , been done plenty times before , if Benji wants to be punted then simple don’t follow the instruction , then see ya

Measure WTs against clubs who are successful - then we might get serious about why coaches fail at this club.
There are failed coaches who coach successfully at other well run clubs with high level support, pathway systems that produce, develop and retain talent.
Until fans demand more from the people running this club HBG will have no problem paying out the coaches while preserving division within the club.
I really hate this narrative. Mage went to a club with an absolute stacked roster. Madge has proved many time he can win with a gun roster but the drop of is massive. He has also demonstrated an inability to assemble a roster.

Ivan didn't stick around long enough but looked like he could to the job but he did stuff our cap immensely before he left....Ivan has Nathan that's a future immortal and a continual production line of generational talent.

I'm not defending our club or Benji one bit they have been abysmal for far to many years.

Our problems are a lot more nuanced and complex than coaches coaching here become successful when they leave.

We will be anchored to the bottom unless HBG sell us. They don't give a shit about the tigers being successful. The whole joint needs to be burt to the ground and rebuilt from scratch.

Yeah you're right, HBG seem to be perenial under achievers, going back decades.

And without doubt it would be the hardest coaching job in the game, hence the calls for more experienced support around him.

The scarey thing is that, if a non Wests Tigers entity purchased the club, there would be a fair chance that we would be relocated to Brisbane.

I don’t see us turning this around on the current trajectory. Each day it seems increasingly that we are heading for a major crash and course correction.

Its the football club that need to say we don't want him here and they would then need approval from HBG to cough up.

Its the football club who make the decisions, granted with limited resources but they're the ones who should be copping more of the flak.

HBG are the majority on the WT board they are making decisions for the football program what are you talking about

Do they make all the wrong decisions?

I thought he football club board made the decsions about the football team? Maybe I'm wrong?

How do we know how they have voted for in a decision? Do we just assume the HBG members vote always wrong?

The football club board is dominated by HBG debenture holders.

Yeah thats right but we assuming that they don't have the WTs best interests?

For example, was it the 5 members of HBG that voted for Benji's extension and the others didn't?

Is this all on record?

If so, don't we have evidence?

You have just outlined broadly what we already know. Some solutions would be much appreciated.
G'day

Obviously not having been a member of this page until recently. Im not fully aware or across all the topics that have been discussed over time. Although I have read some of the "take the fight to HBG" thread amongst others

I think the only solution is for as many people as possible to apply as much pressure as possible to the debenture holders of Holman Barnes group. That to my eyes is the number one root cause of all issues related to the Wests Tigers NRL side. Its an archaic post world war 2 corporate model that has no place in modern professional sports..

I understand there are people in this forum that have been active in that area from various things which I've read

I am not sure what exactly club members and fans could specifically do in this area, but that is surely the pressure point...

🙏

Could we get Cambo Leagues more involved, somehow?

Could this be explored further as an avenue of despair?

Surely, it's a possibility?

It would depend on the money they make, and if it was enough, the supporters could use 'people' power to make them our main owners.

Can’t they fund the club?

They walked out due to frustration with Wests Ashfield and Balmain. They felt the inner west and traditional Magpies area was being prioritised and South West was being neglected.

From memory they used to vote in a block with Balmain due to tensions with Wests Ashfield. They’ve had a volatile relationship with Wests Ashfield historically.

It’s not a simple case of asking them to come back in. I’d imagine HBG would need to relinquish or sell majority control to them and there would need to be assurances the club uses to the South west as a home base.

This should have been a red flag from the get go. Craig Fitzgibbon, whether he still does it now, idk, but he did it when he was first appointed at the Sharks. And that’s on game day, he’d put himself through an intense work out, because he wanted to feel equal to his players and what they were putting themselves through later that day. Benii would rather play a round. I’m not advocating Fitzgibbon’s ritual. It sounds indicative of a rookie coach over extending himself. But look where they both are at currently. One is a winner, the other is a cellar dweller. Could just be a coincidence, but it’s an insight into their personalities and passion for doing what they do.
Sorry, one did a long apprenticeship and Benji did'nt. Very simple. One learnt the ropes of first grade coach and Benji has'nt and probably never will.

Yeah sure, a long shot but if they were willing and had the capabilities, then maybe fan pressure could have an influence.
