The Supersonic Concorde Airliner During its First Australian Visit 1972

Crowds gathered along General Holmes Drive, formerly Main Road 194, on the 20 June 1972, to see the controversial and spectacularly sleek, new supersonic Concorde airliner taking off from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, for a demonstration flight during its first visit to Australia.

I'd take my plastic football to Pratten Park which was at the top of my street and kick goals barefoot until the groundsman would inevitably yell at me to get off the ground.
Lived just 3 houses from the southern entrance in the mid 70s, spent a lot of time kicking the football around Pratten Park, occasionally got the opportunity to take a few kicks at goal before being chased off the oval by the groundsman.

Im just wondering how many of the dog fans who made it to Wenty the other night will be regulars at Richmond ! Not many I’d say.
It’s like Menangle, HP was a drop kick from the city and a great starting point for a Friday night out. Same with Wenty on à Saturday night.
First step in the long term demise of the trots and pups, imo.
Same in Melbourne , trots to Melton, dogs from city to Sandown and Broadmeadow. Isolation by area whereas the old city tracks catered to all.

Terrible for a lot of the punters but not a bad move for the trainers.

To be fair though, attendance at WP had been poor for years for anything outside of group racing.

Pre-decimal - the Aussie Florin.
An Australian florin had a face value of 2 shillings (or one-tenth of an Australian pound), which became 20 cents when Australia converted to decimal currency in 1966.
