Cricket Season Thread

Far too many passengers. Maddinson two more failures, Webster rarely takes wickets, middling batting returns, Marnus hasn’t had a decent year for some time now. Frankly Lyon and Boland have batted better than many of the “batsmen”. That test was easily drawable with the weather breaks. Floodlights coming on, might have only needed to bat another 30 minutes. Awful attacking shots by Smith and Starc in particular. Battling unit continues to underwhelm. Guys like Patterson can’t get a run but another guy who hasn’t played first class cricket for 18 months gets reinstated. We’ve got LWWL in four tests and there hasn’t really been a solid batting performance. It’s generally relied on individuals getting bit scores with support from bowlers.
 
Boland had a fantastic game with bat and ball clear man of Match performance

however south africa were 2/20 !! and still win the game

hopefully third test doesnt have any rain delays etc as it will be an intriguing contest, south africa have there typical grit and determination back.

good old parochial cricket market and the tab never fails to provide value when playing the aussies. There is no other sports market like it in this country it is unbelievable, unders every time they take the pitch no matter who they play

South Africa $4.50 to win the series after one loss in that first test minus there best bowler was a ridiculous price.

Even the head to head price this test has Australia $2.05 South Africa $2.15

cant wait for this summer with the kiwis coming over here value to be had with the kiwis
they will likely not throw away wickets like the poms did last summer should be in for some good tests

I don’t think any team can win/lose a game like Adelaide 06/07, but last night came as close you could. The amount of time that was lost due to rain, it was only going to take a monumental collapse/match winning innings to avoid a draw. Absolute joke if Marnus isn’t pissed off.

Marnus hasn't scored a century in 47 innings. Only passed 50 in 9 of those innings. His average is 1090 runs for 25.35 in those last 47 innings (inc. 4 n/o's.) We let go of Renshaw after his first summer of cricket and he was averaging 34 from memory and it took him nearly ten years to get back in the team.
 
This team are in danger of becoming one of the "nearly" great teams. The amount of times they have thrown away big away series is crazy:

Up 1-0 in a 3 test series in SA and have them 5-97, they bottle it

2019 Ashes, 3rd test Headingly, 1-0 up and bowl England out for 67 with a first innings lead of 110, they bottle it.

2023 India tour, 2nd test in Delhi, 1-0 up with a first innings lead and 1-65 they get bowled out for 113 and lose the test

2023 Ashes, 3rd test, 2-0 up, first innings lead and 1-100 then they throw it away again.

Listened to the ABC podcast this morning happy and thats the talk, Lyon to come back in, they wont drop any of the big 3..they were saying that Marnus is safe too, that is the worst news Ive heard today, I want him gone, way too many chances!! Renshaw and Head to open, Ingliss (though i have never really seen why he is always in squad but at least no more Marnus) at 3, smith, Green, Carey then young Connolly at 7 then the bowlers. I personally would have Kunnemann in for Lyon as they have heaps of right handers to spin ball away..

Yup you just shake your head, players like Katich got rissolled and were twice the player Marnus is. Listen to Whately and Katich on SEN after he played that shot to get out, they went OFF!! They said he must be dropped immediately!!

Katich got binned because he had the audacity to tell Clarke he was part of a team and he should act like it.
