The profit was after funding from HBG. Meaning Wests Tigers was and is still running at a loss. Not a profit. As long as HBG still needs to prop up the operation, they will want a board majority.

To add: - HBG actually give more money to Balmain's footy club the the Magpies - The Magpies footy club board is cooked as well for ordinary members with 4/7 spots appointed by HBG Outside of people's imaginations, the whole Magpies v Balmain hasn't been a thing for a very long time.

Terrible for a lot of the punters but not a bad move for the trainers. To be fair though, attendance at WP had been poor for years for anything outside of group racing.
