Jayden "Bud" Sullivan #278

Maybe if the rest turned up and had a real crack from the kick off, we could then make a fairer assessment
He went missing big time but so did most of them
Just watch an old game with Pat Richards, Gareth Ellis & Co. to realise what’s been missing for a long time - absolute passion from Go to Wo … the moves, oh the moves. The sawn off witches hat, most likely thieved from a DMR shed and hacked down in seconds to elevate Pat’s monstrous kickoffs. How did we become so mediocre (limp even), like a team of strangers that don’t know each other, don’t support the ball runner, don’t move up and knock off the opposition attack before they build up revs.
Just the old-fashioned, telegraphed run-around - yes, that old chestnut, albeit in frame by frame slow motion predictability, preceded by 5 five tackle wasting half-hearted so called “crash plays”. Can’t remember the last time we chip kicked over the top - oh yes I do, amazing lot it was Brooks in the demolition of the Cowboys, then he crawled back into his shell again…🥱
How hard can it be to back up the ball runner and be in a position to accept a rank offload? Seems Bulla and Api are the only ones capable of anything un-robotic.
I’m hoping Olam can bring a lot of passion back on Saturday night, I’m sure he will, just needs a few more willing comrades around him. I think Olam will inspire a win against all odds this week 🤞
No more Slender “crash plays” please, if you can’t measure up at the Urinal then you aren’t going to penetrate the try line against those who do measure up.

Sullivan is a five eighth his strength is running & hopefully he comes good he was out of position & will improve. When Latu Fainu is fit
I would put him onto the bench to cover the halves and hooker positions. He is more solid than Galvin who should have another year in the NSW Cup. I think Latu will partner Luai in 2025 with Sullivan on the bench & Galvin in the centre’s or back row if he bulks up.

Another different view, see what options for you ?

Agree he is more suited as a 5/8 but he thinks he's a half. Galvin out called him for the ball and his defence is not up to NRL level IMO. He will be eased back into reserve grade very soon. There are better options for the bench.

I rest my case .. Olam (the wrecking ball) was superb and absolutely motivating. We finally off loaded and backed up each other. Api absolutely in a class of his own! Great upset - Leichardt Oval the real hero! I got up and watched it again this morning.

Olam looked like a man with a point to prove ! I was dubious about him but if that’s what we can expect it’ll be worth watching.
Sezer nothing sensational but seemed to
bring some calm into the play, and his kicking was consistent whilst I’m sure he helped Galvin.
Interesting mix of youth and experience. I’m intrigued what we do with Fainu coz he was the hot item. And Bud can play a part, but only off the bench, at least while everyone healthy.

Olam was nearly twice as good as I expected. Doesn't say much but clearly lifts the players around him. And, as dogshit was Bud was last week, he looked quite nifty at dummy-half

Olam was excellent and Faataape has exceeded expectations. He’s not brilliant but he’s had some really tough defensive assignments in his first two games and he’s done a fine job.

Sullivan can play and 14 is his ideal position. With Luai coming he should probably move on Latu Fainu will be ready and a halves pairing if Luai and Galvin is certain. Bud, Staines and Klemmer are players we need to upgrade from. Klemmer is a warrior but he’s near the end of the line.

Any player can look like shit playing out of position. Sullivan isn’t a halfback.

We have three good 14 options, Bud,Latu and TDS. All three will need to be managed so they get game time in the top grade and long game time in reggies.

Watching 1 half of Latu Fainu in his 1st game back still heavily strapped and easily looks the class player in nsw cup.

a massive week in this man's career. second chances rarely come around so quick.

Bud will come onto a strong left edge that has been instrumental in us winning two in a row. he takes the place of a rookie who has left him for dead.

he was diabolical against Canberra, there's no other way to describe it. but this week he gets the chance to play second fiddle to Sezer and call for the ball when he sees something. that should suit him, but if he plays within himself again then I don't see us winning.

the biggest thing for Sullivan is running the ball. not once have I seen him just pin the ears back and try and use his speed and footwork to trouble other defenders. if he fails to do that again the Dolphins have so much speed out wide that they will cover our left edge with ease.

a lack of minutes these last two weeks plus a chance to make good on Marshall's faith in him should have him chomping at the bit. this week is so crucial for his career that if he fails to fire then England is going to become a very viable career option.
