Wests Tigers Home Ground Mega Thread

He's spending all his money on a PNG team.
No he's not. He's pledged to underwrite a PNG team for $20M, should it ever get off the ground. The money isn't committed.

It's good diplomacy. It's a move to tie PNG in more tightly with Australia, before China gets its hands on the place.

That's much more important for Australia than doing up Leichhardt Oval.

Parking at King George isn't bad. Walk along the bay to the ground. Easy access to Victoria road on the way home.
Parking at King George isn't bad, it's non existent. Less than LO.
The only public transport is buses on Victoria Road

I think apart from Belmore … hasnt money been spent on the others you mention?

LO hasn’t had a dime in a long time
I'm not aware of an upgrade at Brookvale.
I think Jubilee Oval got some money years ago, don't know what the extent of works was.

Remember, Souths walked away from Redfern Oval years ago as it was no longer suitable and no one was going to upgrade it.

Well I don't know what the answer is, I live in Camden & prefer going to Leichhardt Oval, but that's just me. Would it be worth while the League buying Leichhardt Oval? I was @ Leichhardt last week & thought there was more then 16,000 but who knows, the other thing is we are Tennants of the ground & shouldn't the Council pay to fix it, out of curiosity does anyone know what we pay to rent the ground per year.

There's a huge new stand @ Brookie at the northern end behind the posts... Not sure what else has been done but going off what you can see in TV they've had lot$ done and heap$ $pent

That point of view is a little too nuanced for an internet forum. I prefer Tele headlines

A grandstand, just like the one we need at LO, was built when Tony Abbott managed to fudge finances to benefit his electorate... No one bats an eyelid. If Albo did it there'd be a massive outcry.

Kogarah also had a new stand and thousands of extra seats put in. Even with their expenditure they're both still barely better than Leichhardt

See this narrative that LO has no transport compared to other grounds is just bullshit. The fact is Leichhardt Oval is closer to a light rail station than Allianz stadium is! And they built a station at Moore Park just for the stadiums there.

It's just that because you're not in a sports or connectivity commercial precinct it seems further. But there's no mass transport available at Brookvale. Leichhardt Oval is closer to mass transit than Kogarah, Penrith or Parramatta.

No.
The transport to LO is pretty bad... Yiu have to go to Central to get the. Light rail unless you pick it up midway along g the line which is not helpful for non locals
The best pub trans is the bus from central to Mary St (440???)
I dunno what you mean by mass transit but Kogarah Parra and Penrith would all be closer to mainline rail than LO to a light rail that would take forever to the city
Buses along Vic Rd and you have a 20/30 min walk
Weekend timetables see buses usually every 30 mins
It's bad all round

There are very few grounds in Sydney that offer perfect parking and travelling solutions if you don't reside right near them - no way Manly would move and despite poor parking and public transport.
Moving to Campbelltown will provide great opportunity for local residents to attend games but can guarantee not many of those would have travelled to Leichardt to watch games, and it is very likely that if Leichardt is out that will be the case for many of the inner west fans.
Logistically getting to Campbelltown from the inner west to watch a game of footy is challenging unless it's a Sunday arvo game.

would like to know the numbers of CSS members who are also members of LO
if it was a 100% move to CSS you could probably take that 8000 members down to 5000 (taking away the LO only membership)
if Richo gets this wrong it could really.be the death.of the membership base (including if he goes to Accor and not many members join)
In Richo's eyes the corporates will be well looked after... that is all that counts

The right play I think is
no magic round
2 LO (out of Sydney teams)
4 CSS games
6 Accor / Allianz / Commbank

I don’t think many fans who live in the inner west will travel to Campbelltown to watch a game of footy as it is far from where they live. Unless the fan is a die hard and tries to attend every home game of the club, I don’t see many people from the inner west going to CSS to watch them play even if it is the Sunday arvo game. That’s why you don’t see many rival fans go to the game either at CSS because if they do live near where the club they support is based, it is very far to travel just to watch them play. Obviously not every fan lives where their club is based but the ones who do will most likely not end up going as it is far from their home.

I think back to Tigergran and how she attended almost every single game, no matter where, even in England!

It's a 4 1/2 hour drive to CSS, 5 to LO, 65 mins to Bathurst, 6 hours to Tamworth for us. I'm grateful I am able to travel to these games, but it does leave me scratching my head when it's too far from Balmain to Leumeah. I used to live in Emu Plains, and we went to CSS, LO, and whatever Homebush is called now, and again, I don't really understand the "it's too far" argument. I know everyone's circumstances are different, but I really just don't get it 🤔

Well in my circumstances I will go to Leichardt as its 10 mins away as is Homebush with the tunnels but if it's on CSS I won't go - a long drive, time I can be doing other things and it'll be better viewing at Home or joining my mates at the Pub for a beer which again is 5 mins walk

While it ain’t that long to travel like it is for you, like you said some people’s circumstances are different. Some people might have to go to work early the next day and if they have to start early like I do when I have to work, they might not go because by the time they get home after the games finished and depending how they get there whether they drive and have to deal with late night traffic or they catch the train or bus and have to wait for the train and bus to get them close to home, it can be challenging to go as you don’t want to have to deal with it when you might be busy the next day. Obviously the time when the game starts is a factor as well but that’s just one reason why people won’t go from Balmain to Leumeah. Some won’t as they just don’t like CSS but that’s just the way it is.

TIME FOR CAMPBELLTOWN TIGERS TO STEP UP

Okay, fair enough, Leichhardt Oval is decaying and may fail short of NRL ground standards within the next year so how about Wests Tigers’ Macarthur fan base start coming out in numbers?

At least the Leichhardt faithful actually make an effort to attend games.

The Campbelltown fans seem to complain a lot about a lack of footy but never turn up when games are scheduled for Sydney’s south west.

The average crowd at Campbelltown Stadium over the past two years has been a modest 9464. The Leichhardt average during the same period was 13,500.

Leichhardt pulled 16,000 fans last week. It was magic. Campbelltown’s biggest crowd since 2022 was 11,201.

We keep getting told Macarthur is a burgeoning area for rugby league.

How about the Macarthur supporters actually prove to the NRL that they deserve more games.

If they don’t, then there’s no way Campbelltown should get more games if Leichhardt is closed for NRL matches.

Wests Tigers play at Campbelltown in round six against St George Illawarra before returning again in round eight against Brisbane.

Let’s see how many fans turn up.
