Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I disagree because you need depth in your squad to make a decent impact in the modern game. You always get injuries/suspensions so you need decent replacements. At a minimum you need 22/25 capable first grade players imho.
I say 20/22 tops and fill the rest with minimum juniors

Why?
Because for ages our base 17 hasn't been strong enough.
Give us a first grade 1-17 and were not at the bottom of the table. (a lot closer to this, this year).

Someone like Starford Toa is one of our best backs. He is just making first grade in many teams.
Depth means we can replace Toa with someone like Brent Naden. Don't get me wrong I like both players, but Naden should really be off to England.

We could be spending Toa + Naden money better on a first grader like Bradman Best or Herbie F or Staggs. Someone who really takes the field. If they get injured, ok a Junior replaces them...

But were not winning as much as we should be with our best first grade side. We need a competitive side that wins games. When our best backline is Turuva, AD, Toa, Skelton, what's the point of Depth?

It just seemed like a very odd decision when we have so much invested already in our halves, monetarily with Luai and with young guys like Fainu and Mason. The halves for us aren’t exactly a priority when we are short on middles and a strike centre. The fact they won’t pursue DCE or any other established halfback makes it even more odd. Especially given how vocal Richo and Benji have been about being very selective with who they want to bring the club, If you are being selective, you don’t make reactionary decisions like that. It’s almost like they just wanted a win in the player market after being rejected by a teenager.
Sounds like you just made that up to support a predetermined conclusion. We had $$ to pay LG a million a season to play as a half so clearly money wasn’t an issue for Reynolds at $750K. As for other halfbacks, where has the club or anyone said we’re not pursuing anyone? It seems like your word of the month is reactionary and you’re trying to find ways to use it to insult the club 🤷‍♂️

I’d argue starford would be in most teams ? he was playing for newy when we signed him ? not suprised if he goes to market this year and gets a few offers from other clubs he’s having a great year

Sorry GNR, I take that back. I get what you’re saying, there might be some kind of save face aspect to the pursuit of Reynolds. I just find it frustrating some times when people bag the club and think there’s no reasonable, rational explanation behind their actions. We all know so little about what’s really happening.

Yea, Peta Godinet though was an 80k signing.

From memory he played a few games at Hooker, had early success but fizzed and Robbie Farah came back at some point. Not going to rubbish him.
If anything, guys like him punched above their weight. How that roster in 2018 (i think) got us to 9th I will never know. It was horrendous. They just turned up every week and got in a grind and held on.

Yeah it was amateur media stuff from him it was always going to come back and make him look like a moron, but all of us already knew he was long ago.
It was one of the first times I have 💯 agreed with him though. Slater was a massive grub. They had to make rule changes because he endangered opponents multiple times by going in feet first or legs out taking a bomb. He was a protected species by the media though who barely called him out on it. If it were someone else he'd have been rubbed out of the game
