A few of those are standouts in teams playing finals footy and on very little money.
Smart recruitment isn't about outspending other teams, it's about identifying young talent.
It's started with the Fainus, Bula, Skelton, hopefully Makasini, the Mays. Leave it to the experts.

Let me explain to you.
As of 2027 we will have 12 million dollars to soend on our salary cap just like every other NRL club.
As of November 1 this year which is fast approaching, we have the opportunity to recruit for 2027.
If we continue to choose to spend our salary cap on players who are not good enough to get us into the top 8, let alone win a premiership, then we are obviously overpaying a certain element of our players that then prevent us from having the available cap space to pay the right calibre of players to get us into the top 8 or win a premiership.

Yes, always good to add quality, but your previous suggestion of offering $1m for unproven fullbacks in Marky Mark or Purdue is bordering on ridiculous

Apologies for being a bit harsh but building a team doesn't come from signing big names, it comes from finding the next big names. Warriors have more good young forwards coming through than anyone but thought they'd rush things and buy JFH. Didn't quite work out. Gold Coast bought 2 x million dollar forwards from the Storm and Broncos. How are they going? How do you think Newcastle will go with Dylan Brown?

It’s hard to see 1.3 million dollars of value in Dylan Brown, but he’s no lesser of a 5/8 than our own Jerome Luai, so if we are questioning Newcastle we should also be questioning ourselves.

God, are you really that invested in this? Who cares. I didn’t say I didn’t like him. I do. Just don’t think he’s in the elite bracket. Not yet anyway.

They have not yet played fullback at NRL level,
However based on their physical attributes and skill set, there is a an extremely high possibility both would be exceptionally good fullbacks if and when they are given that opportunity,
Purdue in particular has fullback written all over him and is an extremely gifted young player blessed with the explosive speed that allows him to create something out of nothing like only the elite players can.

He is currently off contract for 2027 and someone will pay him a million dollars per season, whether that’s the Roosters, another lucky NRL club or the ARU.
When talking million dollar per season contracts, that is unheard of for a winger, so it’s extremely likely someone will play him at fullback or in the centres.
 
Not sure why all the negativity towards Bula.
Especially in the back half of this season he has scored some miraculous tries.
On top of that he’s been trailing runners through and sniffing out gaps (something plenty were saying was something he was lacking)
His defence is also good and he’s the only bloke in the team with real speed.
Keeps getting better and better from what I can see.
More than happy to keep him.

I’m not saying get rid of him right now, but if we needed to find an extra 250k to put towards signing a genuine elite player, one option would be to replace him with Luke Laulilli on 200k and it’s virtually a like for like player,

Pretty sure Jerome has won 4 NRL premierships as a key spine player. Pretty sure Dylan Brown has won none. Similar players in some regards, but objectively JL is the more accomplished and at $1.2M is better value than DB at $1.3M.

Only place he’s getting $1M per is back with ARU. He’s potentially an elite winger, which at best gets him to $650k, a possible centre option which maybe gets him to $750k, but who’s gunna sign him as an untried fullback?

You're saying Turuva was "filling a role" at Penrith? The club with never ending talent coming through their ranks? The club that could have replaced him with just about any winger off contract because they'd kill to be on the end of that backline? The club that had him first choice despite that?

Turuva is one of the best wingers to ever put on a Tigers jersey and he's not a bad fill in at fullback either. I really don't know what the hell you're talking about.

I think Pat Richards, Loti Tuquiri, Taniela (too briefly unfortunately) might have something to say about that, but he has been a great signing and worth the coin we paid for him. One of our best all year, consistently starts sets well for us and goes looking for a ton of work. He’s not perfect defensively and maybe a little vulnerable under the high ball as a shorter winger, but he’s not Robinson Crusoe in that regard. He’s a lock in as a starting winger in most NRL teams, including the one he left to join us.

No club has bought a premiership since the 70’s when Manly silvertails raided Western Suburbs and Roosters raided Souths. Most premiership clubs identify talent early and develop them into a winning squad. Buying a Monte Burns all star team hasn’t worked in the NRL era.
