HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

Richardson and the previous board just committed to the South West, did they not?

Unless I am mistaken, we are playing at least 7-8 games a year at Campbelltown from 2029 - what the hell is Epifania talking about? Is that not enough? Do they not want any games at Leichhardt? We are only playing 3-4 games a year there.

The outcome, if it actually happens as reported, seems to be a desperate solution to ease the backlash and appease Vlandys. It’s not a long term solution unfortunately and we haven’t seen the end of the rubbish from HBG.
I hope Benji is extended and that settles down the playing group so we can focus on the season ahead.
As we all know any contract that is signed isn’t worth anything- if either party wants out they’ll make it happen anyway.

Benji has a get out of jail card in his back pocket if 2026 goes pear shape. The media and everyone else will be pointing their finger at the boardroom…and rightly so. To think the last week’s drama will have no effect on the club would be naive
I think everything will start to die down from here....therell be some media about the rally over the weekend/ early next week....if anything comes from that its gotta be asic and or L&G.
That would take a while imo but im not confide t now either of thise entities will change anything.
Denis hiding in the corner as per will see him untouched and unscathed as usual....i think the.pots boiled over and the heats off now...itll die down and.the players have 2.months to prepare
Hopefully theyre left alone to focus on what they need to do...hopefully Bula is sorted shortly too

This is the crux of the issue. I remember when the podcasters interviewed one of the ousted HBG directors he mentioned this.

Essentially HBG are simply doing their job and living their company values so long as they have control of wests tigers. Without this control I suspect they believe that the brand over time will become diluted.

Unfortunately, I think the way they’ve gone about making sure this happens, may end up the thing that results in the brand ceasing to exist forever.
Private ownership the way to go

You might have trouble finding a direct public quote because it doesn't exist.
This is what PVL said yesterday.

V’landys said he had to intervene to protect the NRL and Wests Tigers brands.

“A licence is a privilege, a licence to be in the NRL is worth a lot of money,” V’landys said on Thursday. “Naturally, we have our rights under the licence, and we will use those rights if we have to.

“In this case, we didn’t have to because they were professional enough to reach an amicable solution. We appreciate their professionalism in that regard. They gave us an undertaking they won’t dilute the Balmain brand, they are putting the independents back on with Barry as chair.

“It’s the best solution to give the fans confidence before Christmas. And, more importantly, for Benji Marshall and the team. We won’t allow any dilution. If they ever try, it won’t happen. Balmain fans can rest easy it will never happen.”

V’landys felt the reinstatement of the independent directors, particularly O’Farrell, would provide
the club with much-needed stability.

It's all about Richo being autonomous and not asking permission. Because HBG know what they're doing, not the bloke that's lifted 2 clubs off the canvas to win comps.

I got an email from the Membership Group today that they'd be happy to organise a call if I wanted. They didn't specifically offer the CEO but it was a personalised reply to my complaint email from Monday this week.

They said if I wanted to speak to someone at Tigers to discuss my complaints about the recent activity, they'd arrange a call.
In isolation, it's a good policy and could be a sign we have a CEO that can read a room. Getting a template back to an email written in frustration is beyond annoying, so well done there I guess.

Practically speaking, it's like complaining to your siblings about your parents. You might get some sympathy, but it won't change the result.

The place is crazy. BOF gets the punt for no obvious reason, now he may get re-instated, so if he did something wrong they wouldn't re-instate him.

Talk of Brad Arthur as a possible coach to replace Benji, next hour - Benji offered a contract extension ??

So many stupid knee jerk reactions, just so unprofessional.
It’s the leaks that prove a point , under Richo it was silence , once a strong leader is removed all the grubs start coming out with there stories , lies , pot stirring , they can’t help the self’s , HBG has not got one person who would or could do a good job with the football department , Burgess and co must go , and I mean the whole debenture set up removed for a members of football club voting system , no one says Burgess and co can’t run for spots but yes the first time it may be messy with 50 candidates but so what it will get better over time , the current system Is flawed

lets dream for a minute
Valandys not only coerced hbg to take them back , but also he talked them into returning
Unfinished business , revenge is best served cold ,f knows its happened
Only an imbecile would step back into the past ,unless they were sure the future will be different
If we take a step back, it is very strange a bunch of people, who were publicly and unceremoniously dismissed and had their character smeared on the way out, would return 10 days later.

The devil is in the detail.

My guess is this.

V'Landys didn't want to create a media storm by appointing an administrator. He made the agreement that O'Farrell and the other independents would be reporting directly to the NRL as a watchdog of sorts. This gave the independents enough confidence to return and gave HBG what they ultimately wanted which is board control.

I believe that, the NRL believes, it's a good solution, but it's not going to stop bad decisions being made.

Time will show their incompetence.
