Cricket Season Thread

On paper the Pom’s should have been very competitive in this series. When you play a hard nosed outfit like the Australians you have to play them at their own game. You grind and grind and when you get on top than you can play some Bazball. Full marks to the Aussies and they deserve to retain the ashes but most of the Pommy batsmen need to have a long hard look at themselves. I wonder with the saturation of white ball cricket weather the Poms have the mental ability to grind out a innings and bowl over after over of line and length balls.

If this had been the first Test, I’d say there’d be positive signs for the Poms. They did get into the grind as this Test wore on. But too little too late. Another lesson they should take out of today, is if you hang in there long enough, you could always get some good fortune. Which they did with Lyon going down, and Starc one bad follow through away from being taken out of the attack. But by that point the damage was done. All of their terrible cricket in the first two Tests really came home to roost today.

I find this bazball thing weird. It's a name made up by the English press to describe a style of playing that Boycott and Michael Vaughn etc don't like.

It play hard and be aggressive. Dominance from ball one.

It's not through the bat at the ball and hope. But be aggressive.

It's actually try and play like Australia.
Play aggressive cricket. I don't like Brendan McCullam but he is going to get smashed by the press for something that is made up by the press.
He hates the name bazball years ago.

Congrats to England for putting up a fight but when you finally turn to our greatest bowler Mitchell Starc then class prevails
We started the day with weird bowling arrangements and then lose one of our main strike bowlers in Lyon
England had a few things go their way losing Smith then losing Lyon but the better team won by a slightly smaller margin 82 runs
Test 1 by 8 wickets Test 2 by 8 wickets Test 3 by runs
Piers Morgan said before 1st test
" this is the worst Australian team in 25 years and England will win 5 -0 "
Wonder if this pompous ass will ever admit he's wrong

Yeah, the perception is that they named it themselves and they big noted claiming it would make them the best Test team in the world. False. It’s just the style they adopted, and they had success with it. The thing that brought it down was after they went all in on it, they only knew one gear. They couldn’t tone it down when situations called for it. But it’s false that they were being braggadocios in adopting that style. It’s reminiscent of the “moral victory” myth. No one in the England side claimed they were morally superior. The term didn’t even come from the Bairstow run out. Harry Brook was asked when they were down 2-0, if they came back and drew the series, would they see it as a moral victory. Yet, it’s been linked to the Bairstow thing when it was completely separate. The only takeaway is that the public are easy to manipulate.

Morgan will never admit he is wrong on anything,he is still an adoring sycophant blowing smoke up Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon's derriere and thinks England are wonderful in sport.A hopeless Anglophile right winger from head to toe,he probably still believes the Windsors are relevant in modern society.

Idk. Not to go into politics, but in the last month, he’s interviewed Tucker and Nick Fuentes and saw first hand what lunatics they are, plus he was aghast when Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon danced on a murdered man’s grave. It’s been a real eye opener for him seeing the class of company he has on his side of the political aisle. That and England have been decimated after he talked a big game in the lead up. Hasn’t been a good month for poor ol’ Piers.

Some of the English blogs are still saying they can still win the moral victory

Hey BF was not a big fan of the BBL but starting to enjoy it a bit more
Watching cricket with some great batting and fielding ( not great bowling )
See some games without all this national pride overriding the game
Just watch ,enjoy but don't care who wins much
May the best team win it whoever that is
The Scorchers / Heat game amazing
Josh Phillipe was amazing for the 6's

Yeah I’m watching the spectacle of it. Still go for Sydney teams a bit, but not as diehard as with the Oz team, it’s just a pleasant watch, and if it’s shite I don’t have to watch.
You see guys do some amazing stuff under the constant scoreboard pressure.

Special effort by Mitchell Starc
Played 3 tests 150 runs ave 50
22 wickets ave 17
Cummins plays 1 test but doesn't think he can back up for Melbourne
Please don't replace him with Doggett

My thoughts as well. Root and Stokes do have different gears but someone like Harry Brock only plays one way. Has had success that way (seen 2 double hundreds live that way myself from him). But hasn't learnt how to do the hard stuff. I saw Cameron Green get his highest test score at wellington and he is exactly the same. Doesn't know how to change gears.
Big problem for England is Stokes will step down from the captaincy after this series and they do not have anyone else to do the job in this squad.
