The argument for fully embracing the Macarthur as home for the Wests Tigers.

I did say earlier in the year. By the time we played Warriors and Dolphins we were playing like mud and the bandwagon came crashing back to earth

3 Leichhardt sell outs and 1 Campbelltown in the first 2 months of footy, plus an Easter Monday sell out (or was that an eels home game?)
It's every year mate, but awesome theory.

Can't wait to hear all the Campbo excuses.

× Team isn't winning
× Our own CEO has the theory that because we win at Leichhardt it damages crowds at × Campbelltown (gimme a break Shaun).
× Time of day
× Day of week
× Too cold
× Too hot
× Away team didn't bring enough fans
× Not enough investment in the area [doubt Leichhardt gets any compared to Campbo]

Anymore we want to add? This will be good.

You’re preaching to the wrong guy old mate, i’m not pro Campbelltown lol

The game is worth over 5 billion now, the NRL won’t want us playing out of old dilapidated suburban grounds much longer. The sooner we get upgrades the better

Sold out Leichhardt the week before the Dolphins game. I went to both. I’ve been to more lively funerals than the Dolphins game. I get that it being the final LO game changes things.

To be honest they’re both low standard grounds but at least the atmosphere at Leichhardt is a big plus. Campbelltown desperately needs money spent on it. The location is great - the station is next door and there are two club owned licensed premises adjacent - but that grandstand furthest from the station is embarrassingly small.

To be frank both grounds treat supporters like low grade cattle. Got a GA season ticket for CO? No seat for you at LO and you’d best get to Campbelltown early enough to get one of the handful of seats. Member appreciation round be damned, we can get an extra $50 from these suckers. Free flags were good though…

I’ve said it many times, this club doesn’t deserve to have the fan base it does. Any other club with our record over 25 years would be lucky to draw 7000.

Not sure what upgrades have to do with what I said, but we are getting upgrades anyway.

They can't fill Campbo now...why would they need more seats? Leichhardt should have been 25k

I can’t recall the exact reasons why it was built at Concord … I think the local Govt put in some money + land … whether its the best area for it is a moot point for the next 20 years at least …that’s the call that was made at the time, that’s what they will be operating out of…

I have never been there in person … but it certainly looks a magnificent facility to train and rehabilitate players .. the club is lucky to have such a facility thinking back to the years when they operated out of portable buildings

It’s certainly fit for its primary purpose
The concord oval redevelopment was funded by 3 levels of government and WT.

1 sellout at CSS. Should have sold out the other 2 earlier in the year but didn’t. Even with cheap tickets v Dolphins it didn’t sellout.
They have had a few sell outs or near sell outs in the last two seasons despite our position on the ladder. That's a big improvement on most previous seasons post 2005.
I'm of the old adage "Build it, and they will come".
The potential to become a Penrith 2.0 is just there for the taking.

Tough call but they don’t need a partner Wests Group at Cambo need to take over the club. It won’t make any sense unless it’s a club there full time. Issue is sporting clubs are a good investment tv revenue covers the costs even running last they make financial sense. Why would you sell? People assume results on the footy field are important id guess to our owners they are not that key.
I wish Wests Group Cambo did take over the NRL club.

Imagine a shiny New Wests Tigers branded licenced club built right into the stadium perimeter in a new Southern stand, with a COE attached to the Northern grandstand.

Is this true, really?

So again it's HBG thats holding the club back. Have they ever really supported the idea of Cambo? Whats the CEO doing about this? This is a massive question for the future of the club.

I'm an old Balmain guy and even I say, we should be fully in Macarthur in around ten years time.
I don't believe WSM ever supported the move to Campbelltown. It feels like an afterthought and an obligation to play there. It's my least favourite ground. That said I believe if the WT want to survive and I've written this before on the forum, they need to become the local team in the Macarthur region, create an Elite pathways system similar to what Panthers have done - which costs $$$ and build their identity in the region. I don't even know what our identity is? Yes foundation clubs created us, but who are we? We train at Concord, play cup at Lidcombe and play out of 3 grounds. Campbelltown needs to be upgraded and the club needs to move there and fully engage. We still need to play out of Leichhardt when it's upgraded but I'm not convinced a 50/50 split is the way. Like you I am from the Balmain side but now WT and I want this club to be successful. I don't believe it will be under current ownership, we need new owners fully committed to rebuilding the club as a professional sports franchise. SGI have similar issues and it's been so long since both JV were formed and that it still an issue for both clubs, says to me it can't be resolved and that the way forward is new owners, not owners who were from either club. Owners committed to WT with a vision for success. I think I'm dreaming though.

against st george and Parramatta they were big crowds for CSS
meanwhile LO sells out for ganes against gold coast and cowboys

I’m not really disagreeing with you. So I have no argument lol. My original post was related to our fan base being starved of success 😂 I think if we have any sort of winning season our fans will pack any home stadium

The ground is only part of the importance of a region. It’s about community and growing that community into a Rugby League community and it’s clear that MacArthur is the best place to do this.

However we need resources and commitment from the people who can supply it, not only HBG but local clubs, corporate and the fans.

If we don’t the Tigers will be no more.

Has anyone heard what the CEO and the board say about this?

Sorry...tell me why "it's clear"?

We are alienating a supporter base that actually turns up for a supporter base that only turns up with an ever growing list of terms and conditions or never.

Yet another thing that will destroy this club despite them doing a fantastic job of that already.

We can still play a few games at Leichardt every year but Campbelltown should be our home and base not Concord. Macarthur is where the growth is. Reason we dont get the community engagement is because Wests Tigers have neglected the region for 25 years. We need to get in there and claim it now. Richo when he was here said that the clubs future was the Macarthar coridor. Make no mistake if we dont get ourselves implanted in the region properly and he gets the CEO gig at St George Illawarra, he and other club leaders will take the best prospects we have coming through the region leaving us the dregs. We should have moved out there instead of Concord.

The Magpies went fulltime to Cambo for years.

Howd that end up???
Look at the MacArthur bulls FC. I don’t actually think Campbelltown is the future of the MacArthur region . I genuinely think it’s out towards narrellan . That’s where all the business are , even further toward Bradfield , with aerospace and transport business obviously from the airport . . Ultimately as well …. That’s also where the people are .
How you tap into that and where I dunno . But C town - much like wests tigers as a whole . Has a stink around it. I’m starting to think it’s not salvageable and would be better off selling to easts tigers as the third Brisbane team.
