Nostalgia

Terrible for a lot of the punters but not a bad move for the trainers.

To be fair though, attendance at WP had been poor for years for anything outside of group racing.
Great, but it’s punters they need, and a couple of hundred hardened old veterans won’t save the industry.

For sure. The 280m Friday night party thing they tried a few years back at WP seemed like a good idea.

For mine, the industry is on borrowed time anyway.

For a long time the owners and trainers have had an opportunity to clean up their act and breed for temperament and longevity.

Instead they've kept breeding big numbers in the hope of getting a million dollar winner and stud dog, ending up needing to re-home a lot of dogs that aren't very suitable as pets.

53 years ago, 20 October 1973, the Sydney Opera House was officially opened by the Queen.
Designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, this World Heritage-listed masterpiece represents a breakthrough in modern architecture. The famous sails have become a symbol of Sydney and modern Australia as a whole.

When the Opera House opened its doors in 1973, a new era of cultural discovery began.
Five decades later, it is the nation’s leading tourism destination, one of the world’s busiest performing arts centres and a community meeting place that belongs to all Australians.
