2026 Rugby League World Cup fixtures - October/November

It’s obvious you don’t like the guy
I don't know the bloke, so I've got no reason to dislike him personally. I'm judging him as a footballer, not a person. For someone who's been talked up as the second coming of Jesus Christ in the halves, he's done precious little to justify the worship. At some point, the performances have to match the hype. So far, we've been promised the Messiah and handed a bloke who looks like he's still reading the instruction manual. Forgive me for not joining the congregation.

I hear what you're saying, but it's no different to Australia and its fans larping as a football powerhouse every time the Soccer World Cup rolls around. We've spent decades pumping money into the game, banging on about grassroots development and pretending we're on the verge of something special, only to turn up every four years and celebrate scraping out of the group stage like we've just won the bloody thing. Give us another thousand years and we'll probably still be calling a 2–1 loss to a decent side a heroic performance.

But maybe that's missing the point entirely. Not every country needs to be a genuine chance of winning the World Cup to deserve a place in it. Lebanon, and the other smaller rugby league nations might never lift the trophy, but they bring different cultures, passionate supporters, fresh rivalries and a bit of unpredictability.

I'd rather watch an underdog have a crack and occasionally get absolutely flogged than sit through the same tired, predictable handful of nations playing each other over and over again.

If the only countries worth inviting are the ones capable of winning it, or for their potential, we might as well scrap the World Cup and organise an annual Australia vs Penrith trial match.
I love the idea of the underdog , and I won't argue the point of the likes of France or PNG being in the the RLWC. They wont win it but they genuinely play the game , like Australia in soccer.
Lebanon doesn't fill that bill.

How did latu go? I saw about a third of the game and the tactics seemed for lolohea to be controlling the team, but when latu got the ball did he have good touches?

Anyone who knows me on here knows I rate Latu so high i believe he is the one that can finally get us into the 8. So ill answer your question as fairly as possible.

Latu was ok. He played 6 not 7 and his involvement was down. Lolohea played 7 and all his footy was on the right, shutting Latu out. Lolohea didnt do one thing to bring his halves partner into the game. Wouldn't surprise me if he did this deliberately to get Latu's spot when Katoa returns.
The few touches Latu had were nice without being outstanding. He defended well but tried to pull off a massive hit that slipped high and is on report. He needs to be told to just make his tackles.
I was disappointed in him a few times. At least twice he should have demanded the ball on the left but he didnt. One of those times the ball actually went his way but he still didn't get it as you could see he wasnt demanding it. Thats not good enough and he cant be like that at the Tigers. I fear if he is partnered with AD it might.

Dont listen to idiots who say he has nothing, he has more in his game than any half we have had for the past 20 years besides Benji. He just needs to know his role clearly and have a halves partner that compliments that. Thats the key. Our halves need to compliment each other. Madden compliments Latu, Javon does also. Doueihi no way, Averillo maybe but not confident.

Theres a huge difference between not joining the big hype and saying someone has nothing. At least own your dislike and don't sugar coat it woth posts like this like scared little boy

This is difficult in rep footy especially if you are the less experienced half...as well as playing 6 and having two dummy halves to deal with
Thought your summary was accurate tho
Nice to see some shortish kicking game from him too.
He has that acceleration weve been missing for a long time i love how he can go from 0-100 and back to 40 from recieving the ball and engaging the line in D in a second

Three times Latu called the short side play when it was on and ignored him. Slow play the balls and ball going way to much to looked hasn’t helped Latu.
He seems to struggle to over call a dominate half, plus luke annoying 9 plus dominate forwards.

He didn't need to over play as the won but he could of organised that left side better

He has good spacing and passing didnt see much running

Glad got through the game

Are we doing anything in Lebanon though? France have a competition there and a team in ESL. You can work on that.
There's a local comp in Lebanon and local players have made the national squad before.
Game isn't hugely popular but it is reasonably well known.

I think you're question is fair btw, but I'll be disappointed if they cant beat france.

Thats a terrible decision. How can you have 3 players stand in the line, then Leinu catches the ball on the left of those players, then runs behind them to the right of them and scores in that space. That should not be allowed. That space was taken in the line by attackers therefore stopping defenders from filling it. Shocking call
